Sporting Club Delhi Fight Back to Hold Mumbai City FC in 2–2 Draw

by Chandler D'silva March 9, 2026

Sporting Club Delhi produced a determined second-half comeback to secure a 2-2 draw against Mumbai City FC in the Indian Super League 2025-26 at the Mumbai Football Arena on March 8.

Mumbai City began the match in dominant fashion and quickly took the lead within the opening minutes. A long throw-in from Akash Mishra caused confusion in the Delhi defence, and Jorge Pereyra Díaz reacted quickest to head the loose ball into the bottom corner in the third minute.

The Islanders continued their attacking momentum and doubled their lead in the 17th minute. Brandon Fernandes delivered a perfectly weighted pass into the path of Noufal, who calmly finished into the top corner to give Mumbai City a comfortable two-goal advantage.

Despite trailing, Sporting Club Delhi looked eager to respond and created a few attempts from distance. Their persistence paid off just before half-time when a free-kick was not cleared properly by the Mumbai defence. Rafael Ribeiro set the ball up for Manoj Mohammad, who struck a powerful effort into the bottom corner to pull one back for the visitors in stoppage time.

Delhi carried that momentum into the second half, enjoying more possession and putting pressure on the Mumbai defence. While a few opportunities went begging, the equaliser finally arrived in the 73rd minute through an impressive individual effort from Matija Babović. The midfielder surged through the defence before finishing calmly from close range to level the score at 2-2.

Both teams pushed forward in search of a late winner in the closing stages. Mumbai City created a few attempts from distance, while Delhi nearly completed the turnaround when Devendra Murgaokar headed narrowly wide in stoppage time.

However, neither side could find the decisive goal as the match ended in a 2-2 draw. The result earned Sporting Club Delhi their first point of the season, while Mumbai City FC had to settle for a share of the spoils despite their strong start.
