SC Delhi Storm into Durand Cup Quarter-finals with 7-1 victory
SC Delhi secured their place in the quarter-finals of the 135th IndianOil Durand Cup in emphatic fashion, cruising to a 7-1 victory over Indian Air Force Football Team in their final Group C fixture at the Birsa Munda Football Stadium in Ranchi on Monday.
The Delhi-based side completed a perfect group-stage campaign with three wins from three matches, following earlier victories over Jamshedpur FC and Defenders FC. Their attacking form has been one of the major highlights of the campaign, with SC Delhi scoring freely throughout the group stage.
SC Delhi had already announced themselves as serious contenders after beginning the tournament with a 2-1 comeback win over Jamshedpur FC, before producing a sensational 7-0 victory against Defenders FC. Brazilian forward Rodriguinho was particularly influential in that second outing, scoring five goals.
Against the Indian Air Force, SC Delhi once again displayed their attacking quality, overwhelming the Airmen with relentless pressure and clinical finishing. The seven-goal haul ensured they finished the group stage with an impressive attacking record and considerable momentum heading into the knockout rounds.
Indian Air Force FT, who had opened their campaign with a 2-1 victory over Defenders FC, found themselves unable to match the intensity of their opponents. Despite managing to find the net once, they were ultimately overwhelmed by SC Delhi’s attacking firepower.
The 7-1 victory confirmed SC Delhi’s position as one of the teams to watch in the knockout stages. With a perfect record and plenty of goals already under their belt, the Delhi outfit now enter the quarter-finals with genuine ambitions of making a deep run in the competition.
