Resolute Bengaluru FC Hold Mohun Bagan to Goalless Stalemate

Bengaluru FC produced a disciplined defensive performance to hold league leaders Mohun Bagan Super Giant to a 0–0 draw in Gameweek 5 of the Indian Super League 2025–26 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on March 14.

The match began at an energetic pace with Bengaluru showing early attacking intent. Ryan Williams forced Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Vishal Kaith into an early save in the second minute after being set up by Roshan Singh. The visitors responded quickly, with Jamie Maclaren testing Gurpreet Singh Sandhu from the left side of the box before Dimitri Petratos fired narrowly wide moments later.

As the first half progressed, Mohun Bagan began to dominate possession and pushed forward in search of the opening goal. Liston Colaco and Petratos both attempted efforts from distance, while Maclaren missed the target from inside the box after a promising attacking move. Despite the Mariners’ attacking pressure, Bengaluru’s defence remained organised and ensured the score stayed level heading into the break.

Bengaluru started the second half with renewed determination. Sirojiddin Kuziev tried his luck from long range, while Mohun Bagan nearly broke the deadlock shortly after the hour mark when Alberto Rodríguez saw his close-range effort saved by Gurpreet.

The hosts had a promising opportunity in the 63rd minute when Sunil Chhetri found space inside the box, but Anirudh Thapa produced a crucial block before Subhasish Bose cleared the danger. Both teams continued to threaten as Roshan Singh and Kuziev tested the opposition defence from distance, while Maclaren was denied by a timely intervention from Roshan.

As the match entered its final stages, Mohun Bagan pressed hard for a late winner. Rodríguez was denied by another impressive save from Gurpreet, while Petratos and Rodríguez both came close in the closing minutes.

Despite several chances created by both teams, neither side could find the decisive breakthrough. The match ended in a goalless draw, with Bengaluru FC becoming the first team this season to take points off Mohun Bagan, who continue their unbeaten run at the top of the table.
