Langsning FC Run Riot in Second Half to Thrash Mumbay FC 5-0

Langsning FC

Langsning FC produced a stunning second-half performance to register a dominant 5-0 victory over Mumbay FC in a Group E fixture of the 135th IndianOil Durand Cup at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong. After a closely contested first half, the hosts shifted through the gears after the restart, scoring five unanswered goals to maintain their perfect start to the tournament in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.

Both sides adopted an attacking 4-3-3 formation, with Langsning relying on the frontline of Kyrmenskhem Mukhim, Syed Ahmed and Wadajied Kynsai Ryngkhlem, while Mumbay FC looked to threaten through Afzar Noorani and Rohit Mirza. The opening 45 minutes saw Langsning dominate possession and dictate the tempo, but Mumbay FC defended resolutely to keep the scores level heading into the break.

The Meghalaya side enjoyed nearly 60 per cent possession during the first half and created several promising opportunities, forcing the visitors deep into their own half. Mumbay’s defence worked tirelessly to repel the pressure, even producing a crucial goal-line clearance late in the half to deny the hosts what looked to be a certain opening goal.

Langsning’s persistence finally paid off six minutes into the second half. Having already won six corners, the hosts made their seventh count as Syed Ahmed rose highest to meet a perfectly delivered inswinging corner, powering a header beyond the goalkeeper to break the deadlock and spark celebrations among the home supporters.

The opener completely changed the complexion of the contest, with Langsning growing in confidence and attacking with greater freedom. Syed Ahmed doubled both his tally and his side’s advantage in the 65th minute, finishing off another well-worked move to put the hosts firmly in control.

As Mumbay FC pushed forward in search of a way back into the match, spaces began to open at the back, and Langsning capitalised brilliantly. Kyrmenskhem Mukhim added a third goal in the 89th minute with a composed finish after beating the advancing goalkeeper, effectively putting the result beyond doubt.

The hosts were not finished yet. Deep into stoppage time, Dibormi Chanlang Ki O Kassar produced one of the standout moments of the tournament, curling a magnificent left-footed strike into the top corner from outside the penalty area, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance and bringing the home crowd to its feet.

Substitute Samuel Phawa then completed the rout with Langsning’s fifth goal, capping off a remarkable second-half display and sealing one of the biggest victories of this year’s competition.

The emphatic win continued Langsning FC’s dream debut in the Durand Cup, with the Meghalaya outfit making a strong statement in Group E through their attacking football and clinical finishing. For Mumbay FC, it was a difficult evening after an encouraging first-half display, but the Mumbai-based side will look to regroup and bounce back in their remaining fixtures as they continue their maiden campaign in India’s oldest football tournament.
