From Mumbai Champions to I-League 2: MYJ-GMSC’s Short but Sharp Rise

by FC March 25, 2026

In just over a year since their formation, MYJ-GMSC have quickly moved from local football to the national stage. A merger project that clicked early, the club’s rise has been built on results—first in Mumbai, and then in the demanding I-League 3 pathway.

As they prepare to represent Mumbai in the I-League 2 2025–26 campaign, MYJ-GMSC’s journey stands as a indication to smart planning, squad cohesion, and a vision to follow on.

MYJ-GMSC were formed ahead of the 2023–24 season after the merger of Mighty Young Joe FC and Goalorious Mothers SC. Unlike most new clubs, they didn’t take time to settle.

In their first season, they won the Mumbai Premier League title, going unbeaten with 14 wins and 2 draws. That campaign secured their place in the 2024–25 I-League 3, marking their entry into national competition.

Drawn in Group C and playing in Aizawl, MYJ-GMSC faced Chanmari FC, HAL, Coromandel FC, and RKM. Their campaign started with a tough draw against HAL, where they came from behind with a late equaliser. They followed it up with a strong 4–0 win over Coromandel FC, showing their attacking quality, with multiple goal scorers stepping up. A key result came in their final group game, a 5–1 win over RKM, which helped them secure qualification.

MYJ-GMSC finished second in the group and advanced to the playoffs—one of 10 teams to make it through from the initial 25-team field in I-league 3 2024-25.

The playoff round in West Bengal was a step up in level. MYJ-GMSC were placed in a group with Chanmari, SAT, Abbas Union, and Dalbir FA. Their campaign included: A 2–0 win over Dalbir FA, 1–0 win over Abbas Union But losses against Chanmari and SAT costed them the top two spot. These results left them with 2 wins from 4 games, narrowly missing out on a top-two finish. Despite finishing third in their playoff group, they still achieved promotion, as the third-placed teams were awarded spots in the 2025–26 I-League 2.

From an unbeaten local league campaign to navigating the pressures of national competition, MYJ-GMSC’s journey has been defined by a vision of growth of Mumbai Football. As they now prepare for life in I-League 2, the club carries not just momentum, but the belief that their rapid ascent is only the beginning.
