Bengaluru FC returned to winning ways in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 with a 2-1 victory over Mohammedan Sporting Club at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan on March 7. First-half goals from Ryan Williams and Ashique Kuruniyan proved decisive for the visitors, while Mahitosh Roy pulled one back for the hosts in the second half.

Both teams entered the match after defeats in their previous fixtures, prompting changes in their starting line-ups. Bengaluru head coach Renedy Singh made three alterations, introducing Rahul Bheke in defence, handing a debut to Uzbek midfielder Siroj Kuziev, and pairing Ryan Williams with Sunil Chhetri in attack. Mohammedan Sporting coach Mehrajuddin Wadoo also reshuffled his side with changes in defence, midfield, and attack.

Bengaluru FC started the match brightly and dominated the early exchanges. Sunil Chhetri came close to opening the scoring multiple times in the opening minutes as the Blues piled pressure on the Mohammedan defence.

The breakthrough finally arrived through Ryan Williams. After a corner delivered by Kuziev caused confusion in the box, a header from Chhetri deflected into Williams’ path, and the forward reacted quickly to tap the ball home from close range.

Bengaluru doubled their advantage later in the first half through Ashique Kuruniyan. A cross from the right was initially cleared by the Mohammedan goalkeeper, but the ball fell to Ashique outside the box. The winger struck a powerful left-footed effort that went in despite the keeper getting a touch.

Trailing 2-0 at half-time, Mohammedan Sporting made immediate changes after the restart and were rewarded quickly. A cross from Adison was partially cleared by the Bengaluru defence, but Mahitosh Roy was perfectly positioned to collect the loose ball and finish neatly past Gurpreet Singh Sandhu to make it 2-1.

The hosts gained momentum after the goal and pushed forward in search of an equaliser. Thankima came close on two occasions, first striking the crossbar and later forcing an excellent save from Gurpreet, who produced a crucial stop to keep Bengaluru ahead.

Mohammedan even found the net in the dying moments of the match, but the goal was disallowed due to an infringement before the final touch.

In the end, Bengaluru FC held on to their slender advantage to secure all three points. The victory moves the Blues up to fifth in the standings with seven points, while Mohammedan Sporting continue their difficult start to the campaign still searching for their first points of the season.
