MYJ-GMSC edge past Mumbai City FC to go top of MPL Table

In a fiercely contested encounter, MYJ-GMSC edged past a spirited Mumbai City FC side with a 2-1 victory to climb to the top of the Mumbai Premier League table.
With just one round of fixtures remaining, the Mighty Lions now find themselves in prime position to retain their title, needing just a draw in their final game to seal the championship.
Mumbai City FC came into the game with a reputation for giant-killing performances — having recently defeated Kalina Rangers and Mumbay FC while holding MH Oranje FC to a draw, effectively derailing their run in title race.
The match began with MYJ-GMSC controlling possession and dictating play. Their early dominance paid off in the 23rd minute when a throw-in resulted in the ball reaching Vidipt at centre and the latter finding Jay Bhavnani inside the box with a precise pass. Jay controlled the pass and smashed the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper to give MYJ a 1-0 lead.
Mumbai City FC responded with a flurry of attacking moves and earned a series of corners. One of those paid dividends when Omkar Talkar’s near-post delivery was misjudged by the goalkeeper and slipped into the net, leveling the score at 1-1 going into the break.
The second half saw MYJ-GMSC regain their composure and push forward with renewed intensity. Though Mumbai City’s defense remained compact and disciplined, the breakthrough finally came in the 76th minute. Umesh split the defense with a pinpoint through ball to Siddharth, who sprinted down the wing and sent in a dangerous cutback. A deflection off a defender put the ball in Tejas’ path, and he made no mistake, firing a first-time shot into the net to restore MYJ’s lead.
Despite some late attempt from Mumbai City, the Mighty Lions held on to secure a crucial 2-1 win. The victory sees MYJ-GMSC leap to the top of the table with one final showdown remaining against India On Track — a potential title decider that promises high stakes and drama.
