A come from behind win helped Mumbai Soccer Prodigies to lift Mumbai Super League title while a last gasp equalizer helped Waves FC finish runnerups

The Mumbai Super League 2024-25 culminated in a dramatic final day, with Mumbai Soccer Prodigies (MSP) emerging victorious after a captivating display of attacking football. The final day’s action was packed with twists, turns, and stunning goals, leaving fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.

Going into the final day, the table was delicately poised. Waves FC led with 4 points from two games, followed by Mumbai Ultras FC and MSP tied on 3 points each, while Brothers WA languished at the bottom with just a single point. The stage was set for a thrilling showdown.

The first match of the day saw Waves FC take on Mumbai Ultras FC. The Ultras struck first, capitalizing on an early opportunity in the 8th minute when a dangerous cross from the right forced an own goal from Waves’ Chris Koli. Waves, spurred on by their vocal supporters, fought valiantly for an equalizer, creating several close chances. However, their efforts seemed to be in vain until the dying moments of the game. In the eighth minute of extra time, Shubham Nalvelkar unleashed a breathtaking free-kick, leaving the Ultras’ wall and goalkeeper helpless as the ball nestled into the net. The dramatic equalizer earned Waves a crucial point, but it wasn’t enough to secure them the championship.

The draw left Waves on 5 points, while Ultras moved to 4. This meant MSP had a chance to win the league in their final game against Brothers WA.

The second game of the day was a goal-fest. Brothers WA drew first blood, with Pratham Bhatkar unleashing a powerful shot from outside the box after a free-kick fell kindly to him. The early lead gave Brothers hope, but MSP responded with resilience. Deep Moorjani leveled the score with a tap-in around the 38th minute, setting the stage for a thrilling second half.

MSP came out firing after the break. A quickfire double from Nihal Colaco, followed by a strike from Joseph D’mello, put MSP in a commanding 4-1 lead within just six minutes. Sahil Tambotkar pulled a goal back for Brothers, but Colaco sealed the victory with a sublime chipped finish over the goalkeeper around the 63rd minute, completing his hat-trick. A late Tanishq Gadge goal for Brothers not withstanding, the final scoreline read 5-3 in favor of MSP, crowning them champions of the Mumbai Super League 2024-25.

With MSP securing 6 points, Waves FC finished as runners-up with 5 points, while Mumbai Ultras FC claimed third place with 4 points. Brothers WA finished fourth.
