Magic Made extends unbeaten run, Pune sides surge as MSMFL Phase 2 kicks off.

The Maharashtra State Men’s Football League (MSMFL) Phase 2 has officially resumed, marking its return with contrasting results across two new venues: the NMSA Ground in Vashi, Navi Mumbai, and the Hotfut Turf in Bavdhan, Pune.

The opening two days delivered a blend of stalemates and decisive victories, echoing the unpredictable nature of Phase 2.

Day 1 of Phase 2 mirrored its Phase 1 counterpart with a similar pattern: three draws and just one win, with MYJ-GM being the sole victor on both occasions. However, Day 2 brought more definitive results, reshaping the early Phase 2 standings.

Table-toppers and 2023–24 Mumbai champions MYJ-GM kicked off Phase 2 with the same winning spirit, clinching a solid 3-0 win over Navi Mumbai to complete a double-header sweep. Himanshu’s brace set the tone. However, their momentum took a hit on Day 2, as missed chances and an inability to capitalize proved costly against Magic Made, resulting in a narrow 1-0 defeat.

Magic Made Soccer has firmly established its presence, asserting itself as the only unbeaten team in the league. They now lead the table by a fine margin. On the Phase 2 opener, Magic Made bounced back, battling from a 2-0 deficit against MH Oranje FC to secure a 2-2 draw and maintain their unbeaten streak. The very next day, they asserted their dominance by defeating the Mighty Lions 1-0, courtesy of a decisive strike from their star performer, Arvindraj Rajan, ensuring a stress-free ascent to the top.

Maharashtra Oranje FC would find their first two matches of Phase 2 a delightful mix of results. While the opening draw against Magic Made surely hindered their progress after letting a 2-0 lead slip to finish 2-2, Day 2 significantly boosted their winning spirit. Substitute Raul Almeida scored a brace in just three minutes early in the second half, powering them to a 2-0 victory over Navi Mumbai. Up next, they face a challenging game against MYJ-GM – a fixture that will undoubtedly play a crucial role in determining both teams’ immediate league standing.

Playing on their home ground, Navi Mumbai Sports Association has not been at its best. They’ve endured consecutive losses in Phase 2, falling 3-0 to MYJ-GM and 2-0 to MH Oranje FC. Aaryan Mhatre, a star from their Phase 1 match against MH Oranje, once again troubled Oranje, but the Mumbai side managed to secure the win. Navi Mumbai will have two more matches on their home turf and will be eager to convert their chances into points.

The Pune outfits, Snigmay FC and AIYFA Skyhawks, have kicked off Phase 2 strongly in their new venue. On Day 1, both teams played out a tight 1-1 draw, remaining winless against each other across both phases. However, to bounce back, both teams delivered heavy wins on Day 2.

AIYFA dominated Milan SB Foundation with an 8-0 victory, highlighted by Asad Sayyed’s hat-trick, his second of the league. Snigmay with a 6-1 thrashing of Ratnagiri Pioneers, courtesy of a triple brace from Vaibhav Shetti, Mohit Ughade, and Prateek Patil. Both Pune outfits are now closely positioned in the table, with Snigmay holding 4th place, followed closely by AIYFA.

Despite their losses, the two bottom teams, Milan SB Foundation and Ratnagiri Pioneers, certainly impressed everyone with their football in Phase 2. On the opening day, they played to a competitive 1-1 draw against each other.

On the next day, Milan SB Foundation, though eventually lost 8-0 to AIYFA, matched AIYFA’s intensity in the first half, playing a high line that caught AIYFA offside numerous times.

Similarly, Ratnagiri Pioneers impressed with their first-half performance against Snigmay, going into halftime at 2-1 and matching their opponents. While the second half proved tougher, their renewed bench strength, thanks to new signings across positions, is clearly working for both teams. They will undoubtedly look to surprise with positive results in the coming games.

Phase 2 has indeed begun with a blend of expected outcomes and intriguing surprises, setting the stage for an exciting continuation of the MSMFL season.
