FC Goa Begin Title Defence with Confident 2-0 Win Over Jamshedpur FC

FC Goa kicked off their AIFF Super Cup 2025-26 campaign with a composed 2-0 victory over Jamshedpur FC at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda on a rain-drenched Sunday night. Goals from Javier Siverio and Dejan Dražić on either side of the break ensured a perfect start for the reigning champions in Group B.

Heavy rain and a waterlogged pitch made conditions difficult throughout the evening, even forcing a 24-minute delay to the second half. Yet, FC Goa displayed the composure and control that defined their championship run last season, proving once again why they are one of the tournament favourites.

The fixture was a repeat of last season’s Super Cup final, where the Gaurs triumphed 3-0. Jamshedpur entered the clash eager to make amends but struggled to match Goa’s fluidity in possession and organisation at the back.

The first half saw both teams adjusting to the slippery surface, with the ball holding up on the wet turf. FC Goa slowly grew into the contest, their first real chance coming through a clever Borja Herrera corner that forced Jamshedpur goalkeeper Albino Gomes into an early save. Herrera, Siverio, and Udanta Singh began to link up effectively as Goa started asserting control.

Jamshedpur’s golden chance arrived midway through the half when a goalmouth scramble left Eric Messi Bouli unmarked inside the box. However, his shot went straight at goalkeeper Hrithik Tiwari, wasting what could have been a crucial breakthrough.

Goa eventually made their dominance count right on the stroke of halftime. Udanta Singh’s teasing free-kick was flicked on by Ayush Dev Chhetri, and Javier Siverio rose to nod home the opener with precision, sending the Fatorda crowd into celebration.

After the weather delay at the interval, the Gaurs returned even stronger. Their pressure paid off again in the 66th minute when Borja Herrera’s corner was met by David Timor, whose header crashed off the crossbar. The rebound fell kindly for Dejan Dražić, who smashed home a volley from close range to double the lead.

Despite Jamshedpur’s late attempts to push forward, FC Goa’s backline, marshalled by Sandesh Jhingan and Mohammad Nawaz, remained composed, ensuring the defending champions began their title defence with all three points and a clean sheet.
