A Look at the Last 8 Mumbai Premier League Winners

The Mumbai Premier League (MPL), formerly known as the MDFA or MFA Elite Division, is the crown jewel of Mumbai football. As the second oldest football league in Asia—right after Kolkata’s CFL.

As we gear up for the 2025-26 season, let’s take a trip down memory lane and celebrate the champions who have ruled Mumbai football over the last eight years.

Season 2024-25: India On Track (IOT) FC

IOT FC are the current kings of Mumbai. Their story is nothing short of a movie script. Established in 2018, the club achieved an unbelievable record of five consecutive promotions in five seasons. They started from the bottom and climbed all the way to the top tier.

On the final matchday of the season, they faced the defending champions, MYJ-GMSC. In a high-pressure finale, IOT FC edged past them to lift their maiden Mumbai Premier League title, sealing their status as the city’s new powerhouse.

Season 2023-24: MYJ-GMSC

This season saw the rise of a super-team formed by the merger of Mighty Young Joe FC and Goalorious Mothers SC. Known as MYJ-GMSC, In their inaugural season MYJ-GMSC swept the league.

They didn’t just win; they dominated. MYJ-GMSC went the entire season unbeaten, recording 12 wins and 2 draws in 14 matches. With a lethal attack and a rock-solid defense, they were crowned champions in their debut campaign.

Season 2022-23: Ambernath United-Atlanta FC

For the second year in a row, Ambernath United-Atlanta FC proved they were untouchable. They successfully defended their title with another invincible season, remaining unbeaten throughout the campaign.

They dropped points only once— in an exciting 2-2 draw with MH Oranje FC. Their stats were alarming- 14 wins, 1 draw, and a staggering 68 goals scored, averaging nearly 4.5 goals per game. It was a massive statement of dominance.

Season 2021-22: Ambernath United-Atlanta FC

This was the year a new giant was born. A merger between Deepu K.’s Ambernath United and Allen Contractor’s Atlanta FC created one of the most ruthless teams Mumbai has ever seen.

Led by former India international Steven Dias as head coach, the team was full of stars who shone the brightest. They achieved a “Perfect Season”—winning 17 out of 17 games. They scored 77 goals and conceded just 6. They eventually moved to I-League 2, missing out on promotion to the I-League by just a single point on the final matchday.

Season 2020-21: No Championship

Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the league was not held. The fields were silent.

Season 2019-20: Karnataka Sports Association (KSA)

Just before the world went into lockdown, the MPL (then Elite Division) saw a dramatic finish. The Karnataka Sports Association (KSA) were announced as the winners of the 2019-20 season by MFA.

The Era of Corporate Giants (2016-2019)

Before the recent rise of private clubs, the league was ruled by established corporate powerhouses.

Season 2018-19: Mumbai Customs emerged as the champions after a dramatic final against Air India. The match went down to the wire, with Customs holding their nerve to win on penalties and lift the trophy. Goalkeeper Liyaz Koya was the star in the final producing 4 penalty saves (3 during the shootout) to take his side through to lift the title.

Season 2017-18: ONGC ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation) dethroned the defending champions Air India in a decisive campaign. In the final crucial encounter, a late goal helped ONGC snatch the title, ending Air India’s dominance.

Season 2016-17: Air India This was the year of the “Pilots.” Air India was the undisputed force of Mumbai football, clinching the prestigious title with a dominant unbeaten run. They were the team to beat, setting the standard for professional football in the city.

From corporate giants to new-age private clubs, the Mumbai Premier League has seen it all. As the city buzzes with excitement for the upcoming 2025-26 season, one question remains: Who will write their name in history this time?
