What Rúben Amorim Brings to Manchester United: A Look at His Coaching Journey

One that has been a constant headline maker in the English Premier League is the below-average performance of the premier club Manchester United. For the past few years, the Red Devils have been in the news for all the wrong reasons. They are struggling to make a name for themselves and they have lost the charm of a dominating club in European Club Football. It has been more than a decade since the Red Devils won the Premier League trophy and things have completely gone off the track for one of the biggest clubs in the world.
One of the primary reasons why Manchester United has found itself in a difficult situation is because of the constant changes in the managerial position. After the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjær in 2021, the Red Devils have seen 3 different managers in 3 years, and now, after the sacking of Erik Ten Hag, Rúben Amorim will take the role in November. It is disheartening to see one of the best clubs in European club football struggle. They currently stand at the 13th spot in the Premier League this season with 3 wins, 3 draws, and 4 losses. For those looking to bet on football in India, the ongoing saga of managerial changes at Manchester United has been closely followed, as the sport continues to grow in popularity.
Rúben Amorim is the new boss of the club and expectations are high from him to save the club from the worst possible result. Amorim has managerial experience of more than 6 years but managing Manchester United will be a completely different experience for him.
In this article, we dive into Rúben Amorim and his coaching journey so far and how he can bring Manchester United back to the top of their performance.
Rúben Amorim – A Meteoric Rise to Prominence
After retiring from football as a player, Rúben Amorim joined the Lisbon Football Association for his coaching license. His connection with Manchester United started in those years and that led him to sign the Red Devils now. Amorim attended a post graduation course in psychomotor education during his early days and took an internship under José Mourinho while the latter was managing Manchester United from 2016-18.
His first managerial position came in 2018 with the Portuguese club Casa Pia. One interesting incident changed his career at Casa Pia. During the 2018-19 season, at the start, Casa Pia lost its first two games and hence Amorim announced that if he lost the 3rd fixture as well, he would leave the club. In the third fixture, he changed the playing style and went with a back three for the first time. With this new system, Casa Pia went on an unbeaten run and Amorim soon realised that he was the right man for the job.
After serving Casa Pia for a year, Rúben Amorim joined Braga and served as their coach for a year. His turning point in his managerial career came after joining Sporting CP. He became a revolutionary manager at the club and helped the club to win their first league title in 19 years.
Ruben Amorim at Manchester United
Ruben Amorim comes to Old Trafford after his successful stint at Sporting CP for 4 years. He has learned all the necessary tools to manage a club like Manchester United and it will be a new start for the team. The greatest strength of Amorim is his tactical advantage and flexibility in making decisions. Since his early days, Amorim has been known to try out new things in order to win matches. Amorim is also a young individual who can connect to the players and find out their strengths and weaknesses. This will help Amorim to use the right player at the right place in every game and dominate every fixture.
