During the 2018-19 season, at the start, Casa Pia lost its first two games and hence Amorim announced that if he lost the 3rd fixture as well, he would leave the club. In the third fixture, he changed the playing style and went with a back three for the first time. With this new system, Casa Pia went on an unbeaten run and Amorim soon realised that he was the right man for the job.

After serving Casa Pia for a year, Rúben Amorim joined Braga and served as their coach for a year. His turning point in his managerial career came after joining Sporting CP. He became a revolutionary manager at the club and helped the club to win their first league title in 19 years.
