We Want to Give Fans What They Come to See” – Kratky Gears Up for Mumbai City’s First Home Game

After a less-than-ideal start to the ISL 2024-25 campaign, Mumbai City FC aim to get back on track ahead of their first home game.

With just one point from their first two matches, the Islanders are eager to regain momentum. Their season opener saw them a 2-2 draw against Mohun Bagan after being 2-0 down. However, defensive issues resurfaced when they conceded three goals in their next game at the Furnace.

The recent introduction of Mohammedan SC into the league has created a schedule where one team sits out each week. Mumbai City had a timely break in Matchweek 3, allowing them to regroup and focus ahead of their home fixture.

Head coach Peter Kratky emphasized the importance of this break:
It worked well for us, especially after securing only one point in the first two rounds. This break gave us the chance to reflect, improve, and implement changes where necessary,” said Kratky. “As a coach, it also allowed me to convey important messages to the squad.”

While Mumbai City has been productive in attack, scoring four goals in two matches, their defensive struggles have been evident. The team has conceded five goals across these two games, an issue Kratky addressed: “We need to get better in the area where it’s hurting us. And we have to stop it as soon as possible because, in two games, we conceded five goals and four goals from set-pieces, which is unacceptable for me.

Midfielder Jayesh Rane, a local favorite, spoke about the excitement of playing the first home game of the season in front of his hometown crowd:
It’s always special playing in front of our fans, especially here in Mumbai. There’s a unique energy, and we’re excited for tomorrow’s match.

Looking ahead to their upcoming fixture against a strong Bengaluru FC, Kratky acknowledged the challenge: “We know Bengaluru is one of the top teams right now. But we want to show our fans who we are and what we stand for. The motivation is high, and we know we need to secure points .

With the match taking place on a public holiday, tickets are sold out, and Kratky believes fans are in for an exciting contest: “It’s going to be a tough game, but both teams want to play good football. I think it will be a great match for the supporters.

As Mumbai City FC gear up for their home clash, all eyes are on whether they can secure their first victory of the season and start building momentum.
