Owais Sayed and Mayur Jadhav Orchestrate Shastri Nagar-Offshots FC’s MFA First Division Triumph
The final match of the MFA First Division was a thrilling spectacle, and Shastri Nagar-Offshots FC rose to the occasion to claim the title, with Owais Sayed and Mayur Jadhav playing pivotal roles.
From the first whistle, Shastri Nagar signaled their intent with relentless pressure. Within the opening ten minutes, they carved out two clear one-on-one chances but failed to convert. Their dominance was evident as they surged forward with wave after wave of attacks, but the elusive goal remained out of reach.
South Mumbai, on the other hand, attempted to capitalize on the counterattack. Ishtiyaaq’s close-range effort, following a deft maneuver around two defenders, was met with a spectacular save by the Shastri Nagar goalkeeper, who demonstrated his skill with a fingertip intervention.
As the first half progressed, Shastri Nagar continued to dominate but struggled to find the back of the net. They squandered a golden opportunity when a ball, deflected back into the penalty area, was missed. Moments later, Owais Sayed had a clear chance but failed to convert after outpacing the goalkeeper. Despite creating several chances, neither team could score, leaving the match scoreless at halftime.
The second half proved to be a dramatic shift in momentum. The game came alive with a stunning goal from Owais Sayed. From the left flank, he unleashed a powerful curling shot from 20 yards out, which flew into the top right corner of the net, marking the first goal of the final. It was a moment of pure Joy for the fans in the stand.
The Shastri Nagar goalkeeper was a formidable presence throughout the match, making several crucial saves. He pulled off a breathtaking double save within five minutes, first denying a long-range shot heading for the top corner and then blocking a follow-up effort with his fingertips.
The game’s intensity only escalated from there. South Mumbai United, refusing to back down, found their equalizer through a moment of magic from Ranvir. His curling free-kick from over 25 yards out was a masterpiece, leaving the Shastri Nagar keeper with no chance as it nestled into the top corner.
Dhaiviy from Shastri Nagar broke through South Mumbai’s defense and delivered a precise pass to Vinay, whose shot was saved by the goalkeeper. Dhaiviy soon orchestrated another attack, delivering a pass into the box that found Nikhil. Nikhil’s volley sailed just over the bar, highlighting the relentless pressure applied by Shastri Nagar.
The defining moment of the match came when Owais Sayed orchestrated a brilliant counterattack from the right wing. After a lofted pass from Nikhil, Owais cut through two defenders and laid off a perfectly weighted pass to Mayur Jadhav at the edge of the box. Under immense pressure, Mayur made no mistake, slotting the ball into the top right corner and sending the Shastri Nagar fans into raptures.
The goal was a dagger to South Mumbai United, who despite their best efforts, couldn’t find a way back. Their final attempts were met by a Shastri Nagar defense that had grown more resolute as the match wore on. With each save, the clock ticked closer to Shastri Nagar’s moment of glory. Mayur Jadhav capped off a memorable performance by scoring a second goal, sealing the championship for Shastri Nagar-Offshots FC with a comfortable win.
The MFA First Division season for 2023-24 concluded with Shastri Nagar-Offshots FC emerging as the champions. Don Bosco secured the Runners-Up spot, while South Mumbai United finished in third place. These teams will now transition to the Mumbai Super League, joining other top teams alongside.
