Odisha FC begin their campaign in Style with a Five Star Performance
Odisha FC (OFC) began their campaign in the 133rd IndianOil Durand Cup with a dominant 5-0 victory over BSF Football Team (BSF FT) in a Group E encounter at the SAI Stadium.
Moirangthem Givson Singh’s double, along with goals from Rahul Mukhi, Ashangbam Aphaoba Singh, and Roshan Panna, secured a comfortable victory for Odisha, propelling them to the top of the group standings over North East United FC on goal difference.
Odisha FC Head Coach Amit Rana fielded a youthful lineup, featuring players from the reserves side alongside several experienced talents like Lalliansanga Renthlei, Givson Singh, Aphaoba Singh, Subham Bhattacharya, and Narendra Naik. Meanwhile, BSF FT Head Coach Gurjit Singh Atwal named an experienced starting eleven, with Mohammed Aasif leading the defense.
First Half
The match began with quick attacks from Odisha, who showcased a better performance despite fielding their second team. The first significant chance came for BSF FT with a free-kick 30 meters out, but the opportunity was wasted. Odisha capitalized on their dominance with Mendez’s penalty, giving them the lead after Panicker’s discretion led to a handball inside the box.
Odisha maintained control throughout the first half, with their defense thwarting BSF FT’s attempts. A few dangerous positions for BSF FT were managed well by Odisha’s defense, and the half ended with Odisha in the lead.
Second Half
Odisha continued their aggressive play in the second half, with young forward Rahul Mukhi scoring the opening goal. Aphaoba Singh quickly doubled the lead with a beautiful solo effort. The third goal came from Givson Singh, who scored after receiving a well-timed pass from Aphaoba.
The onslaught continued as Odisha scored two more goals in quick succession. Roshan Panna found the net following a corner, assisted by Givson Singh. Givson then secured his brace, positioning himself perfectly to score the final goal of the match.
Despite a late attempt by BSF FT, Odisha FC saw off the game comfortably, sealing all three points and securing a dominant start in the tournament.
Brief Scores
- Odisha FC: 5 (Moirangthem Givson Singh [2], Rahul Mukhi, Ashangbam Aphaoba Singh, Roshan Panna)
