Mumbai Ultras FC kick off Mumbai Super League campaign with dominant 4-0 win over Ratnam FC

Fresh off their thrilling MFA Independence Cup victory, Mumbai Ultras FC continued their momentum with an emphatic 4-0 victory against Ratnam FC in their opening match of the MFA Super League.

Fresh off their thrilling MFA Independence Cup victory, Mumbai Ultras FC continued their momentum with an emphatic 4-0 victory against Ratnam FC in their opening match of the Mumbai Super League.

The match began with the Ultras asserting their dominance early on. The first opportunity came for the Ultras from the right wing when a low cross into the box found an unmarked Aman on the right, however the latter went for power as the ball soared over the bar.

In the 7th minute, Joyson Chettiar, last season’s standout player for the Ultras, made an early impact. Dribbling the ball confidently into the box, Joyson unleashed a low strike to the bottom left corner, beating the diving Ratnam keeper to give the Ultras a 1-0 lead.

Ratnam FC tried to respond immediately, but a shot from the center sailed over the bar, much to the relief of the Ultras’ defense.

In the next few moments, Mumbai Ultras kept up the pressure. Shreyas, displaying his quick feet, received the ball and sold a dummy to a Ratnam defender before taking a left-footed shot that narrowly missed the target. Minutes later, Shreyas delivered a dangerous ball across the Ratnam box, where Ryann was perfectly positioned. However, Ryann’s first-time strike hit the crossbar, and the ball was eventually cleared to safety.

As the first half approached its conclusion, Joyson found himself one-on-one with the Ratnam keeper, but the latter came off his line just in time to make a brilliant save, denying Joyson a second goal. But the Ultras didn’t have to wait long to double their lead. On the stroke of halftime, Joyson was tripped inside the box, earning a penalty for his side. He stepped up and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom right corner, sending the Ultras into the break with a comfortable 2-0 lead.

Second Half Highlights:

The second half began with the same intensity. Early on, Joyson thought he had secured his hat-trick after breaching the Ratnam defense and scoring past the keeper, but the celebration was short-lived as the linesman raised his flag for a late offside call.

The Ultras kept pushing for more goals, and in the 82nd minute, they were rewarded again. Ryann beat the offside trap and confidently slotted the ball past the keeper, extending the lead to 3-0.

The Ultras continued to create chances. Tanvir, with a brilliant solo run down the right, beat his marker and entered the box. He laid the ball perfectly for Joyson, who was on the brink of a hat-trick, but his shot lacked power and was comfortably saved by the Ratnam keeper.

In the dying moments of the game, Shreyas put on a show. In the 90+2 minute, he dribbled past four defenders and unleashed a shot from inside the box, only for the Ratnam keeper to make a spectacular diving save. However, the resulting corner fell kindly for Shreyas again, and this time, he made no mistake, slotting the ball home to cap off a dominant performance with a well-deserved goal. Not long after, the final whistle blew, and Mumbai Ultras FC walked away with a resounding 4-0 victory.
