Mumbai City FC Reserve Squad Announced for Durand Cup 2024

Mumbai City

Mumbai City FC is set to field their reserve team in the 133rd edition of the Durand Cup, showcasing a mix of seasoned youth players and new talent. The tournament kicks off on July 27, 2024, with Mumbai City’s group stage matches taking place in Kolkata.

All of the Islanders’ group matches will take place in Kolkata’s Kishore Bharati Krirangan Stadium. On August 1, they play Kerala Blasters; on August 5, they play CISF Protectors; and on August 11, they play Punjab FC to wrap up their group campaign.

This opportunity allows the reserve team to gain valuable experience and display their skills on a larger stage. The majority of the selected players originated from the 2022 club setups, starting with the MFA Independence Cup 2022. The newly formed team was crowned champions in their debut, defeating The Oranje FC in a close 1-0 encounter, where Tanush Pandey and Kunal Raghav linked up to score the winning goal. After that, they had a decent season in the Mumbai Super League and participated in the RFDL 2022-23, advancing to the Nationals Group Stage.

For the 2023-24 season, they retained most of the players and had an exceptional run in the MFA Mumbai Super League, clinching the title with an unbeaten run throughout the campaign. They secured promotion to the MFA Premier League for the next season and again qualified for the 2023-24 RFDL National Round campaign.

Now, the young Islanders are all set to embark on their journey in the 133rd edition of the Durand Cup. Out of the 22 players, only four are new additions, while the remaining 18 have previously been part of the Islanders.
