Mumbai Ultras continued their strong start in the Mumbai Super League, securing back-to-back victories with a dramatic 4-2 win over United Villagers WA courtesy Joyson hattrick

The match was a tale of two halves, with Joyson Chettiar’s hat-trick leading the Ultras’ second-half resurgence after trailing 1-2 at halftime.

The game kicked off with a bang as United Villagers WA came out of the blocks with fierce intensity. In just the 3rd minute, Brijal Possa danced past three defenders on the left flank, delivering a perfectly measured cross to the far post. Reece Datya rose above everyone, heading the ball into the top right corner, giving UVWA an early 1-0 lead.

Mumbai Ultras, unfazed by the early setback, gradually found their rhythm through possession-based play. Their patience was rewarded when a beautiful team move culminated in an equalizer. A pinpoint lob from Ryann Dilma sent Joyson Chettiar through on goal, and with a cool finish, he slotted the ball through the keeper’s legs, leveling the score at 1-1.

However, United Villagers WA quickly restored their lead with a moment of brilliance. Dwayne Dabero, stationed at the edge of the box, outfoxed his marker with a quick turn and unleashed a stunning strike. The ball dipped dramatically, catching the goalkeeper off guard as it sailed into the middle of the goal. Dwayne’s audacious shot made it 2-1, with the Ultras facing an uphill battle heading into the break.

In the second half, a rejuvenated Mumbai Ultras took control of the game. Tactical adjustments and renewed energy saw them pressing higher up the pitch, looking for openings. The equalizer came through the ever-reliable Joyson Chettiar once again. Shreyas Zele intercepted a sloppy pass in midfield, surged down the right flank, and delivered a perfectly timed square pass for Joyson to tap in, making it 2-2.

The momentum had firmly shifted in favor of the Ultras, and they took the lead just before the drinks break. From a well-worked corner, Joyson played a clever lob into the box, where Devesh Pandey met it with a clever header to complete the comeback. The Ultras were now up 3-2, with the game slipping away from United Villagers.

As the clock ticked down, Joyson sealed the victory and completed his hat-trick in the dying minutes. In a selfless move, Dhawal Tandel, finding himself in a 1v1 situation with the goalkeeper, spotted Joyson making a run alongside him. Instead of going for goal himself, Dhawal squared the ball to Joyson, who calmly slotted it home, capping off a brilliant performance with a third goal.

With this win, Mumbai Ultras cemented their place as early contenders and will look to carry their winning momentum into their next fixture against Young Boys FC on September 19. Meanwhile, United Villagers WA will need to regroup ahead of their next challenge
