The Goan futsal sensation, Joshua Vaz, is making waves in Indian futsal, set to feature in his third consecutive final of the AIFF Club Futsal Championship. Although he hasn’t yet claimed the title, his journey is inspiring.

Joshua’s first attempt at glory was as a player, coming close but falling short against Delhi FC. In the next edition, he transitioned to coaching, yet Nikhil Mali’s brilliance denied him the championship. Refusing to give up, Joshua now prepares for an ultimate clash with debutant team Golazo FC in the third edition.

Reflecting on the upcoming final, Joshua said, “This will be a third final in a row for many of us, and I’m sure we will give our best to be crowned champions.”

Before his futsal career, Joshua played professional football, starting with Dempo SC in 2008. His senior football career spanned from 2007 to 2019 before he moved into futsal. The AIFF Club Futsal Championship was introduced in the 2021-22 season with 16 teams. Joshua first played professionally in the championship with Mohammedan SC. Although he didn’t win the trophy as a player, but later in year he finished as a runner-up as a coach for Mohammedan SC.

Golazo FC, a Pune-based team, is set to make an impressive debut under Joshua’s guidance. In this third edition, Joshua leads Golazo FC after Mohammedan SC withdrew at the last minute. He has given opportunities to deserving candidates from Mohammedan SC, with seven players from the team featuring in the final—four for Golazo FC and three for Corbett FC. Joshua expressed gratitude to the clubs that offered these players a chance: “I want to thank these four clubs for giving these boys the opportunity to play at the national level after the unacceptable situation they were put in by their previous employer just 12 days before the start of the campaign.”

Joshua is also the co-owner of the YFA Futsal Academy in Goa. His contributions to club futsal were recognized by the AIFF, who appointed him as the head coach of the national futsal team, debuting in 2023.

Joshua will be eyeing his first championship glory on July 7 at 5:00 PM in the third edition of the AIFF Club Futsal Championship
