Deep Moorjani & Joseph D’Mello heroics helps 10 men MSP with 3-1 win over Brothers WA

Mumbai Soccer Prodigies (MSP) and Brothers WA, both teams with strong showings in last season’s MFA Super League, faced off in a gripping match, a neutral’s delight match we can say.

Despite going down to 10 men late in the first half, MSP staged a remarkable comeback to secure a 3-1 victory, thanks to key contributions from Deep Moorjani, Joseph D’Mello, and Deepankar Dubey.

MSP started the match with clear intent, dominating the initial 15 minutes with relentless attacks. The early pressure nearly paid off when Akshay Chavan lofted a pass over Brothers WA’s Om Waghmare to MSP’s left winger, who delivered a precise low cross. Kishan Dubey’s attempt, however, was brilliantly saved by the Brothers’ experienced goalkeeper Abhishek Singh . Moments later, Abhay’s exquisite through ball found Kishan Dubey again, but once more, the keeper denied MSP the lead.

Brothers WA responded with a swift counter-attack, with Shlok Pabale threading a pass to Alymer Gonsalves, only for MSP’s Jacob Sabu to deny the effort. The breakthrough came when MSP’s captain, Deep Moorjani, received a perfect pass inside the box. Marked tightly, Deep turned his defender and coolly slotted the ball into the right bottom corner, giving MSP a deserved lead.

As the first half progressed, Deep and Joseph D’Mello continued to create opportunities with their fluid link-up play. Joseph’s shot narrowly missed the target, brushing the woodwork. Brothers WA, led by the agile and skillful Sachin Bangera, came close to equalizing but failed to score. Late in the first half a free-kick from Shlok Pabale striking the post was breathtaking. The turning point came just before halftime when MSP was reduced to 10 men after a red card to MSP Kishan Dubey, shifting the momentum in favor of Brothers WA.

Taking advantage of their numerical superiority, Brothers WA intensified their attacks in the second half. Substitute Edwyn made an immediate impact, delivering a series of dangerous balls into the MSP box. Alymer Gonsalves, however, continued to struggle with his finishing, missing several key chances.

Edwyn’s persistence finally paid off when he connected with a cross from Sachin Bangera, leveling the score with a well-placed tap-in.

MSP’s resolve was evident as they pushed forward despite being a man down. Joseph D’Mello, received a long pass and made a surging run into the box. With precision, he unleashed a powerful shot into the left bottom corner, restoring MSP’s lead.

One of the standout performances came from MSP’s 17-year-old goalkeeper, Jacob Sabu. Despite Brothers WA’s relentless pressure, Jacob made several crucial saves, including three in quick succession during the dying minutes, to keep MSP’s hopes alive.

The final nail in the coffin came from super-sub Deepankar Dubey. With Brothers WA pushing forward and leaving gaps at the back, Cayden Rodrigues found Deepankar with a perfectly weighted pass. Deepankar sprinted down the wing and smashed the ball into the top right corner, sealing the 3-1 victory for MSP.
