Corbett FC, Ambelim SC, FC Thyristor, Golazo FC make last four

Corbett FC, Ambelim SC, FC Thyristor, and Golazo FC booked their spots in the AIFF Futsal Club Championship semi-finals, after their respective victories in the last eight stage, on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at the Swarnim Gujarat Sports University, in the Vadodara district of Gujarat.

The AIFF Futsal Club Championship, which is now in its third season, saw the previous two champions, Delhi FC (2022) and Minerva Academy (2023) being knocked out of the competition after losing big at the hands of Corbett FC (1-11) and Ambelim SC (2-8).

Corbett FC earn maiden semi-finals spot

Corbett FC won the first quarter-final to book their spot in the last four for the first time, dishing out an 11-1 drubbing to former champions Delhi FC.

PC Lalruatsanga was on form for the side from Uttarakhand, scoring four goals (16’, 19’, 28’, 29’), while Aaron Dcosta scored a first-half hat-trick (2’, 5’, 17’). Two goals from Lalbiakzuala (10’, 15’), and a goal each from Pratik Swami (8’) and Malsawmtluanga Pautu (40’) completed the rout for Corbett FC. Kh Azlaan Shah (36’) scored the consolation goal for Delhi.

Holders Minerva Academy knocked out

Ambelim Sports Club won the second quarter-final of the day, defeating defending champions Minerva Academy 8-2 to set up a semi-final clash with Corbett FC.

The side from Goa were well in control of their faculties during the game, as they picked their moments to spring into quick attacks to perfection. Fredsan Marshall (6’, 34’) and Ronaldo Rosebud Pereira (28’, 29’) netted a brace each, while Clive Miranda (13’), Michael Silva (17’), Lyndon Cardoso (30’), and Fraizer Xavier Cardoso (33’) scored a goal apiece for Ambelim. Samson Keishing (34’) and Thongkhongmayum Naoba (40’) scored the two goals for Minerva Academy.

No stopping FC Thyristor

FC Thyristor came from two goals behind in the first half, to defeat Electric Veng Futsal Club 6-3, in the third quarter-final of the day.

As the two sides from Mizoram crossed swords in the last eight, it was Electric Veng, who came out all guns blazing. Lalremtluanga scored an early hat-trick (3’, 10’, 11’), to put his side in a commanding position, as Thyristor could only answer back through a 5th minute goal by C Lalrinhlua.

Thyristor were a patient bunch, however, and slowly kept chipping away at their rivals. Laltluangzela pulled one back in the 15th minute, before K Roluahpuia’s 32nd minute strike levelled the scores. They secured the win with three late goals, as Peter Lalrinhlua (37’), Laltluangzela (38’), and Lalhmangaiha (40’) secured the win for their side.

Golazo FC rout Millat

Golazo FC dished out an 8-0 thrashing to Millat FC in the last quarter-final of the day. They will now meet FC Thyristor in the second semi-final.

The side from Himachal Pradesh completely dominated the encounter, as Clinton Rosario D’Souza (10’, 12’), Sachin Patil (16’, 18’ p), and Stephen Satarkar (22’, 22’) scored two each, while Lalsangkima (26’) and Augustin Savio D’Mello (38’) got their names on the scoresheet as well.
