Anas Vadgama stars with hattrick as Bombay Gymkhana edge Somaiya FC 4-3

Anas Vadgama dazzled with a remarkable hat-trick in 7-goal showdown in the playoff encounter between Bombay Gymkhana and Somaiya.

Anas Vadgama dazzled with a remarkable hat-trick during an exhilarating seven-goal showdown in the 3rd playoff encounter between Bombay Gymkhana and Somaiya. In a thrilling turn of events, Bombay Gymkhana secured a dramatic stoppage-time triumph.

Monday morning witnessed two teams vying for their first victory in the playoffs fixtures. Bombay Gymkhana secured a draw against India On Track (IOT), while Somaiya FC suffered a loss against Mumbai City FC. Both squads were eager to register their initial wins.

Somaiya struck the first blow with a brilliant play. A precise through pass by Aakash set up Vaibhav Shetti’s exceptional run from the halfway line. Vaibhav advanced into the penalty box before delivering a perfect setup for striker Mandar Palav, who confidently buried the ball in the net. However, Bombay Gymkhana swiftly responded to the challenge, capitalizing on a defensive mix-up by Somaiya. Anas Vadgama seized the opportunity, slotting the ball into the goal and leveling the score at 1-1. Vaibhav Shetti continued to pose a constant threat to the Bombay Gymkhana defense throughout the match.

After a water break, Vaibhav Shetti once again made a significant impact for Somaiya FC. A well-executed through pass from midfield by Utkarsh Chavan allowed Shetti to dribble inside and deliver a low cross that resulted in an own goal due to a misjudgment by the goalkeeper and center-back. Unfazed by this setback, Bombay Gymkhana responded strongly. A precise cross from the right winger found Anas, who took advantage of Arjun Singh’s missed header, calmly finishing past the keeper with a two-touch maneuver. The teams entered the halftime break with a 2-2 deadlock.

The second half started with Somaiya FC dominating the proceedings. Utkarsh Chavan and Aakash’s experience played a pivotal role as they dictated the tempo early on, delivering crucial through passes to their forwards. Aakash’s well-timed through pass to Mandar Palav resulted in another goal, as Palav dribbled inside the box and slotted the ball into the left bottom corner from his right foot.

Despite the initial dominance by Somaiya, Bombay Gymkhana showcased remarkable determination and mounted a comeback. With 15 minutes left in regulation time, Anas Vadgama, the fox in the box for Bombay Gymkhana, completed his hat-trick exploiting poor defending by the Somaiya backline. In the dying moments of the game, Ali, the main man for Bombay Gymkhana, sealed their comeback and secured victory in a captivating and thrilling match. The final scoreline stood at 4-3, with Bombay Gymkhana emerging as the triumphant team.

As this match concludes, it becomes evident that the MFA Super Div playoffs promise to be thrilling encounters worth keeping an eye on.
