Taware’s late winner gives AUA FC perfect start in final round of I-League Qualifiers
In a hard-fought battle at the Cooperage Stadium in Mumbai, FC Bengaluru United (FCBU) suffered a narrow defeat against a determined Ambernath United Atlanta FC, in their second match of the final round of the 2nd Division I-League Qualifiers.
Despite their best efforts, FCBU fell short in their quest for victory, leaving them with a challenging task ahead. The result means FCBU will move to the third position on the table with three points after two games in the final round of the 2nd Division I League Qualifiers
The first half of the match proved to be a tightly contested affair, the teams matched each other evenly, with neither side able to create clear-cut goal-scoring opportunities. FCBU’s midfield worked tirelessly to control the game’s tempo, while their defenders remained resolute, denying the home team, Ambernath United, any significant openings. Despite the efforts of both teams, the scoreline remained unchanged heading into halftime, leaving everything to play for in the second half.
As the match progressed into the latter stages, FCBU fought hard to maintain their defensive solidity, but in the 80th minute, they were dealt a devastating blow. Ambernath United secured the breakthrough they were searching for as Abhijit Taware (80’) found the back of the net, sending their supporters into jubilation. The late goal increased the pressure on the two-time Karnataka Super Division Champions and left them with an uphill battle in the dying minutes of the game.
Despite a valiant effort throughout the match, FCBU couldn’t recover from the late setback, ultimately succumbing to a narrow defeat. FC Bengaluru United will be in action again on the 21st of May when they take on Shillong Lajong, in yet another away encounter, before they come back home to face United SC for their final clash.
