Santosh Trophy 2022-23: Maharashtra ends their campaign with a win

Maharashtra defeated Goa 2-0 in their last game of the final round of Santosh Trophy at the Capital Football Arena in Bhubaneswar, Odisha earlier today.
Maharashtra was already out of contention for a spot in the semis, following a draw against Karnataka in their previous game. As for Goa, this has been a campaign to forget as they have lost all five of their matches in the final round.
Both of Maharashtra’s goals were scored by skipper Himanshu Patil.
Goa had a great chance in the 2nd minute of the game. Skipper Clencio Pinto received Lloyd’s pass inside the box, but his shot went inches off the target.
3 minutes later, captain Himanshu Patil put Maharashtra ahead. He ran onto a through ball from Sufiyan Sheikh and brilliantly slotted the ball into the left-bottom corner.
Goa’s Delton pulled off a great left-footed shot from outside the box in the 32nd minute, but his effort went just off target.
Just 4 minutes into the second half, Indrajeet Chougule missed a sitter to double the advantage for Maharashtra. Himanshu Patil’s cut-back into the box found an unmarked Chougule, but his goal effort went off-target.
Maharashtra had to wait until the 89th minute to score a 2nd and seal the deal. Himanshu Patil slotted home Ashley Koli’s ball into the box with a beautiful back-heel to complete his brace and secure the win for Maharashtra.
