Mumbai City’s commanding 5-0 win places them firmly at Group B summit

Mumbai 5-0 Group B

Mumbai City FC cruised to their second consecutive victory as they comfortably beat Jamshedpur FC 5-0 in a Group B fixture of the 132nd IndianOil Durand Cup

In a lopsided match, Mumbai City FC made a resounding statement as they outplayed Jamshedpur FC in every facet of the game. The youngsters from Jamshedpur FC kicked off proceedings with a burst of energy, testing Phurba Lachenpa within seconds through Bivan Laskar’s attempt. However, Mumbai City swiftly stamped their authority, adopting their signature style of play with Greg Stewart hit the crossbar while Mehtab brought out a save from JFC keeper

The breakthrough came in the 7th minute when Jorge Pereyra Diaz capitalized on a brilliant exchange between Greg Stewart and Vikram Partap Singh. Diaz’s calm finish opened the scoring for the Islanders. Diaz continued his onslaught, doubling the lead in the 14th minute after an exquisite one-two with Alberto Noguera following Bipin Singh’s cross.

The young Jamshedpur FC side put out valiant efforts with Mohit Singh Dhami’s exceptional goalkeeping keeping the score at bay. However, the relentless Mumbai City attack found its rhythm, and Noguera added to the tally with a delightful chip.

The second half commenced just as vigorously for Mumbai City FC. Yoell Van Nieff, a new addition to the squad, exhibited his prowess with a precise finish from the back post to a Greg Stewart corner, extending the lead to 4-0. The dynamic attacking display persisted as Vikram Partap Singh converted with a diving header, capitalizing on Greg Stewart’s precise cross.

Mumbai City FC’s head coach, Des Buckingham, introduced strategic substitutions at the hour mark, maintaining their dominance against the spirited Jamshedpur side. Although Mumbai City eased their intensity, they remained menacing on the offensive, while Jamshedpur FC mounted a late resurgence, albeit without changing the scoreline.

In tomorrow’s double-header, Delhi FC will vie for continued success against Tribhuvan Army, Nepal, while Gokulam Kerala FC squares off against Indian Air Force FT, marking their entry into the tournament.

Mumbai City FC’s resounding victory establishes them as a force to be reckoned with in the 132nd IndianOil Durand Cup, promising an exhilarating journey ahead.
