Maharashtra off to a flying start in Hero Senior Women’s National Football Championship

Maharashtra have made a strong start to their campaign in the 27th edition of the Hero Senior Women’s National Football Championship, winning their opening two fixtures in Group B.

In their first game on Tuesday, March 28th, Maharashtra put on an impressive display against Mizoram, winning 5-1. Sapna Rajpure opened the scoring for Maharashtra in the 14th minute, before Arya More doubled their lead in the 36th minute. Bhumika Mane added a third goal from the penalty spot just before half-time to give Maharashtra a commanding 3-0 lead.

Mizoram pulled one back early in the second half through Deborah Lalenpuh, but Maharashtra responded quickly with Sanika Patil scoring in the 55th minute to restore their three-goal advantage. Bhumika Mane then scored her second of the match in the 70th minute to put the game beyond Mizoram’s reach.

Maharashtra carried their winning momentum into their second game against Pondicherry on Friday, March 31st, winning 2-0. Arya More was the star of the show once again, scoring two goals in the space of two minutes within the first half-hour of the game to secure a comfortable victory for Maharashtra.

With two wins from two games, Maharashtra are currently in second place in Group B, behind Kerala on goal difference. The team has shown great promise in the early stages of the tournament, with their attacking prowess on full display in their victories against Mizoram and Pondicherry.

Maharashtra will now look to continue their winning form in their remaining group fixtures, as they aim to secure their place in the final round of the tournament.
