Apuia in, Parthib misses out as Igor Stimac announces 28 probables for FIFA WC Qualifiers

The Indian senior men’s team head coach Igor Stimac, on Friday, November 3, 2023, announced a list of 28 probables for the first two matches of Round 2 of the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 Preliminary Joint Qualification.

The Blue Tigers are set to face Kuwait in their opening Group A fixture at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium in Kuwait City on Thursday, November 16 at 22:00 IST, before returning home to take on Qatar at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday, November 21 at 19:00 IST.

Amidst speculation of rift between the player and coach, Lalengmawia Ralte (Apuia) gets National team call up by Coach Igor Stimac. Another lad who many were expecting to get a call up was Northeast’s latest sensation Parthib Gogoi. However the 20 year old misses out the bus as Coach Stimac believes he still have to prove his worth.

“A fantastic start to the season for this young boy, this is the third goal in a row for him. Brilliant goal but it’s too early, I want to see more of him this season, a few good games is NOT enough to get the invitation to the NT. There are some more players who are to look out for.” Stimac early mentioned about Gogoi

India will travel to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on November 8 for a preparatory camp before the qualifiers.

List of 28 probables for matches against Kuwait and Qatar:

Goalkeepers: Amrinder Singh, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Vishal Kaith.

Defenders: Akash Mishra, Lalchungnunga, Mehtab Singh, Nikhil Poojary, Rahul Bheke, Roshan Singh Naorem, Sandesh Jhingan, Subhasish Bose.

Midfielders: Anirudh Thapa, Brandon Fernandes, Glan Peter Martins, Lalengmawia, Liston Colaco, Mahesh Singh Naorem, Nandhakumar Sekar, Rohit Kumar, Sahal Abdul Samad, Suresh Singh Wangjam, Udanta Singh Kumam.

Forwards: Ishan Pandita, Lallianzuala Chhangte, Manvir Singh, Rahul Kannoly Praveen, Sunil Chhetri, Vikram Partap Singh.
