Confidence high as RoundGlass Punjab FC aim to get the better of Aizawl FC
Aizawl, February 12: RoundGlass Punjab FC (RGPFC) will face Aizawl FC tomorrow to secure all three points and keep the pressure on the title race in a Round 17 fixture of the Hero I-League 2022-23 season which will be played here at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium. The match is scheduled to kick off at 4:30 PM.
RGPFC will be high on confidence after beating defending champions Gokulam Kerala FC at their home, maintaining the same points as table toppers Sreenidi Deccan. They are below the team from Hyderabad on head to head record. Aizawl FC are a tough team to beat at home as they showed in their previous encounter by beating Rajasthan United.
“It is important to secure three points in every game now and our target will be the same in this match against a good team. Aizawl are a team that are disciplined and have a fighting spirit, who runs lot up and down the field. There is no extra pressure for us, but we will make sure that we play to our best abilities,” said RGPFC Head Coach Staikos Vergetis during the pre-match press conference.
As the title race is getting tighter after every game, RGPFC cannot afford any mistakes. The team will again rely on the goal scoring prowess of Slovenian Luka Majcen, who has 10 goals to his name who will be supported by Juan Mera and Brandon Vanlalremdika. Goalkeeper Kiran Kumar Limbu has been in fine form having 7 clean sheets in the season and are supported well by the team’s defence. Wingbacks Huidrom Naocha Singh and Khaimingthang Lhungdim have been in superb form in defence and also going forward.
RGPFC midfileder Freddy Lallawmawma during the pre β match press conference said, βIt’s a nice feeling to be playing in my hometown and this is going to be the first time playing in my hometown as an opposition player. It is a strange feeling but this is football and we are ready to play a good match.”
RoundGlass Punjab FC had won the reverse fixture against Aizawl FC 2-1 at Panchkula last year with Luka Majcen and Deepak Devrani scoring the winning goals. RGPFC is currently second in the table with 34 points from 16 matches while Aizawl FC are sixth in the table with 23 points from 15 matches.
