Ambernath United Atlanta FC overcome first-half deficit to beat Dempo SC 3-1

In a thrilling Hero 2nd Division encounter, Ambernath United Atlanta FC came back from a goal down to register a convincing 3-1 win against Dempo SC at the Cooperage Stadium.

AUA FC started attacking right from the beginning of the game, hitting the post a couple of times but failing to find the net. Against the run of play, Dempo took the lead in the 36th minute when a defensive error in the Ambernath half was latched on by a Dempo striker Benstan Barretto, who finished it off with ease.

AUA FC came close to scoring a goal couple of times but failed to find the net. AUA FC went into the break trailing 1-0 but they came out all guns blazing in the second half. In the 56th minute, they won a free-kick, and Johnson Mathew’s cross saw Shravan Shetty time his run to perfection to head the ball into the back of the net and level the score.

Three minutes later, Arif Shaikh did well to dribble past a couple of Dempo defenders and set up captain Himanshu Patil, who made no mistake in putting AUA FC in the lead.

AUA FC continued to attack relentlessly, and in the 82nd minute, Abhijit and Arif combined to produce the fourth goal of the game, with the latter scoring AUA FC’s third goal. Things got worse for Dempo as they were down to 10 men in injury time when Vieri Colacco got sent off after receiving the second yellow card of the evening for a rash foul.

The match ended with AUA FC picking up their third win of the campaign and going on par with league leaders ARA FC, although the latter has a game in hand. The win has boosted AUA FC’s chances of qualifying for the final round, although they still need to come out with positive results in the final two group games.

The comeback win will surely boost the morale of the AUA FC team as they look forward to the rest of the campaign
