WIFA Women’s League: PIFA Sports, Mumbai Knights win big

The second round of fixtures saw tournament favorites – Mumbai Knights and PIFA Sports, carrying on their excellent form with big margin victories in their respective matches.

In match no 7 of the WIFA Women’s football league, Lawless United faced off against Mumbai Knights with the latter running away with the game in the first 45 minutes itself. Valencia D’mello was the star of the day scoring four goals in the game.

Having suffered the opening day 4-0 loss, Lawless had another terrible start to the game when Valencia opened the scoring in just the 6th minute itself. Ten minutes later, Referee pointed towards the spot kick after a foul inside the Lawless United Box. Midfielder Velanie Fernandes stepped up for the spot kick producing a fine finish to make it 2-0.

Priyanka and Abeer then added one goal each as the lead swelled to 4-0 around the half-hour mark. A few minutes later, Lawless united conceded an own goal after a mistake from one of their defenders adding more misery to them. Valencia then added two quick goals to complete her hattrick. Both sides entered the break with Mumbai Knights having a 7-0 lead.

In the second half, Mumbai Knights eased out with the game already in hand. Yet they managed to add two more to their tally. Valencia scored the eighth goal of the game early in the half before Mmehak Lobo made it 9-0 midway through the half.

FT: Lawless United (Shreya Yadav 34’ (OG)) 0 – 7 Mumbai Knights (Valencia Dmello 6’, 39’, 45’, 52’, Velanie Fernandes 16’ (P), Priyanka 25’, Abeer Arsiwala 32’, Mmehak Lobo 71’)

In the other encounter, defending champions PIFA Sports continue their dominating run with a clinical 8-0 win against FSI Navi Mumbai following up on their 5-0 win on an opening day.

A quick-fire double strike from Sasmita Behera gave PIFA a 2-0 lead in the first 20 minutes of the game. Dolly Kumari added one midway through the half before Trupti Deep struck the fourth goal of the game minutes before half time break.

The second half had a similar story to this time Bhagyashree Dalvi struck a quick-fire brace within the first 20 minutes of the second half to take the lead to 6-0. Substitute Karen Pais then added to the tally in the 77th minute before Lawanlang Nongbet finished off the game minute before the full-time whistle to close the game 8-0.

FSI Navi Mumbai never looked like threatening the PIFA defense and were resigned to chasing the ball throughout the game.

FT: FSI Navi Mumbai 0 – 8 PIFA Sports (Sasmita Behera 4’, 20’, Dolly Kumari 23’, Trupti Deep 45’, Bhagyashree 48’, 62’ (P), Karen Pais 77’ Lawanlang Nongbet 89’)
