Rajasthan United Beat Mohammedan Sporting 2-0, Move Into Semi finals of Baji Rout Cup 2022

Rajasthan United continued its tradition of turning up and humbling legendary Kolkata clubs, beating Mohammedan Sporting in the quarterfinals of the Baji Rout Cup in Odisha.

Right from the start Rajasthan we’re the dominant side, Martin Chaves and Joseba Beitia at the center of most of the action. After an early scare by Mohammedan, Rajasthan was the ones most likely to get an opener.

In the 24th minute, a miscued clearance saw the loose ball to Lalremsanga who deftly passed to Beitia inside the box. Beitia with his back to goal was brought down illegally but not before he had managed to release the ball into space for Martin Chaves, whose shot first time into the far corner to give Rajasthan the lead.

Rajasthan United controlled the game throughout the remaining per of the half and went into the break leading 1-0.

The script played out to the same tune in the second half as Rajasthan dominate on the ball and forced Mohammedan’s defense into tight corners.

In the 54th minute, a long ball from the back led to a defensive mix-up in the Mohammedan Sporting box. Lalremsanga again pounced on the confusion to sow more doubt and Nuha Marong perfectly dispossessed Mohammedan defender Abhishek Ambedkar before beating the keeper from close range to double RUFC’s lead.

It was a testament to the team’s complete dominance that Mohammedan Sporting — recently crowned Calcutta Football League champions — did not seriously test Md Rafique Ali Sardar in the RUFC goal till halfway through the second half.

After that RUFC put in a clinical performance, closing out the game with ease to progress to the semi-finals where they will face fellow I-League club Srinidhi Deccan.
