Foreign players from Gokulam Kerala Women’s team attacked by drunk youth
Two foreign players from Gokulam Kerala FC women’s team were attacked by a drunk youngster in Kozhikode on Tuesday.
According to reports, the players were leaving the EMS corporation Stadium after the evening training session when the accused threw beer bottles against the players. The attacked players from the team are reportedly from two African countries, Kenya and Ghana.
It is understood that the youth, Arun Kumar, who is a staff of the Kozhikode City Corporation, was drunk. The accused has been detained and is anticipated to face non-bailable assault-related charges
The players suffered minor injuries from the attack and received treatment.
The women’s team of Gokulam Kerala FC is currently preparing for the Indian Women’s League 2022-2023 which is scheduled to be starting on January 15. The previous edition of the Indian Women’s League was won by GKFC, which gave them the qualification for the AFC Women’s club championship, though they couldn’t participate due to the FIFA Ban imposed on the All India Football Federation (AIFF) at that time.
