A detailed look at ISL top-3 goal scorers of all time

On Monday, 31 January 2022, Hyderabad FC Nigerian forward Bartholomew Ogbeche surpassed Ferran Corominas and Sunil Chhetri to become the ISL’s all-time top scorer.

We take a detailed look at all three of them.

Bartholomew Ogbeche:

Ogbeche graced the Hero ISL in 2018 playing 70 matches and scoring 49 times over the years. At 37, he is still going strong and will look to add a few more goals to his tally before the end of this season.

Born in Nigeria, Ogbeche spent most of his playing career in Europe. He moved to France and made his professional debut for Paris Saint-Germain at the age of just 17. He has also played in Spain, Greece, England, and the Netherlands before joining Northeast United in the 2018–19 season, where he scored 12 goals and led the Highlanders to a top-4 spot. The following season he joined Kerala Blasters FC where he netted 15 goals and got one assist. In 2020-21, he joined Mumbai City FC and was instrumental in their Hero ISL win as he scored 8 goals and provided 3 assists for them. In 2021, he joined Hyderabad FC and in 13 matches for the Nizams, he has already scored 14 goals. Ogbeche also holds a unique record of being the top goalscorer for three different clubs in the Hero ISL: NorthEast United FC, Kerala Blasters FC, and Hyderabad FC.

Ferran Corominas:

Ferran Corominas was born in Spain and came up through the ranks of the youth system of Espanyol. Coro spent 8 seasons with Espanyol and appeared in 200 games and scored 24 goals. Coro won the 2002 European Under-19 Championship with Spain and the 2006 Copa del Rey with Espanyol. In 2011, he joined CA Osasuna on loan. He spent his later years in the Segunda División with Girona and Elche. He helped Elche get a promotion to the top tier after a 24-year absence. In 2017, he joined FC Goa. He scored 48 goals in 57 matches for the Gaurs. During his time at FC Goa, he helped them win the Hero Super Cup in 2019 and the ISL League Shield in the 2019-20 season. He also holds the record for “most ISL goals scored by a player in a single club”.

Sunil Chhetri:

Captain Marvel of India began his professional journey in 2002 with Mohun Bagan. In 2010, he went overseas and signed for Major League Soccer side Kansas City Wizards. He scored 5 times in 8 matches for the Wizards. In 2012, he signed to join the Portuguese side Sporting CP B and scored 3 goals in 3 appearances for them. In 2013, he joined Churchill Brothers on loan and helped them win their second-ever I-League title.

In July 2013, he signed for Bengaluru FC and has been with the Southern club ever since. He was picked by Mumbai City FC in 2015 and scored 7 goals. He later returned to the Blues and finished as runners-up with them in the 2016 AFC Cup.

In 2017, Bengaluru FC made their Hero ISL debut and the Indian captain scored 14 goals for them in that season. In 2018, he won the Super Cup and won the 2018–19 Hero ISL with the Blues. Over the years, Chhetri has played 108 games in the ISL and scored 48 goals, and is on level terms with Coro.
