MFA Women’s League: Kenkre, PIFA, Soccer XI script comfortable victories

MUMBAI: Day 2 of MFA Women’s League was an amalgamation of edgy contests and massive victories for Group-B contestants.

Kenkre FC kicked-off proceedings with a decisive win against FC Mumbaikars. Goals from Ritika Goveas and Afreen Peerbhoy at the fag end of the first half proved to be the difference between both ends. With multiple attempts from FC Mumbaikars in the second half, the game was no short of enthralling actions but eventually ended in Kenkre’s favour.

Sasmita Behera and co. ran riot in PIFA’s first outing when they thumped 10 goals past Companeroes. The dominance of PIFA was prevalent from the very first touch of the day. The team netted half a dozen goals by the initial half with commendable efforts from Priya Sukhdeve, Namrata Thakur, Bhagwati Chauhan and Sasmita, who later went on to score a hat-trick. Nothing changed in the second half and PIFA went on to multiply their scoring tally. Taru Sunia, Iawanlang Nongbet found the net and helped their team clinch a comprehensive victory.

PIFA 10-0 Companeroes

The day ended with a thrilling contest between Soccer XI and South Mumbai United. Defiya Pereira’s solitary goal at the fag end of the match helped Soccer XI edge past South Mumbai United. It was an evenly poised contest where both teams created chances throughout the game, but as luck would have it, Soccer XI had the last laugh with Defiya’s goal at the injury time.
