FC Goa vs Northeast United – 3 Key battles to watch out for

Northeast United is all set and geared up to face FC Goa in a thrilling match on Thursday, February 3 at the Tilak Maidan as the season’s second half is filled with enthralling action-packed matches.
Northeast United have won their last 3 games including against the table-toppers Mumbai City FC and ATK Mohun Bagan. After Khalid Jamil took over as the interim coach for the Highlander the club has been on an unbeaten run for 4 games. FC Goa, on the other end, has been on an unbeaten streak for 7 games and will be aiming to continue the streak.
Let’s take a glance at the three most vital battles that could decide the scores of the game.
- DeshornBrown vs FC Goa defense (Adil Khan)
The Jamaican footballer who plays forward for Northeast United has scored 3 goals for the club. During the match against Mumbai City FC, Brown scored twice in the first half and got his team 3 points. In the past Brown had been struggling at Bengaluru FC but after the loan move to Northeast United, he has been in form with total of 3 goals in 3 games. Meanwhile, Adil Khan recently moved to FC Goa from Hyderabad and played his first match against SC East Bengal and was a key in the defense in the absence of Ivan and Donachie. He will be vital for gaurs stopping the Highlanders to get in the box.
- Gallego vs Princeton
Federico Gallego and Princeton Rebello both have the potential to score and can be a threat to their opposition. Gallego has 2 goals under his belt. He also acts as a link between the defence and the attack. He is seen as one of the key players for the highlanders. Princeton played a prominent role for his team in the absence of Edu Bedia and was preferred over Lenny Rodrigues by Coach Juan which ultimately forced the Goan midfielder’s move out of the club. The young lad is seen developing and being skillful and tactical. He can be an ultimatum for his opponents.
- FC Goa Attack vs Northeast Defence
FC Goa has strong attacking side with them with a total 19 goals in 14 matches. Gaur striker Igor Angulo is the top scorer in the league with total 10 goals to his name. His strike partner Jorge Ortiz has also been among the goals with 5 goals.
Meanwhile, Northeast United has struggled to keep clean sheets despite decent performance from the likes of Ashutosh Mehta, Lambot and Fox. In an impressive form under interim Coach Khalid Jamil, NEUFC would want their defense to be in their top game to stop the Goan attack.
Currently Northeast United and FC Goa both are with 21 points where FC Goa is standing 4th in the position and Northeast United in the 5th position. This clash between the mid-table position will be a delight to watch for.
