Fan Voice – Finally it felt like the FC Goa team we were used to watching

As FC Goa clinched a dominating win over Jamshedpur FC, fans were pleased with their side’s performance stating it felt like FC Goa of old.

The Gaurs were clinical throughout the match and cemented the three points as they continue to occupy the playoffs spots in the ISL. Over the course of their last five matches, FC Goa have won three, drawn one and lost one match and have been one of the in-form sides in the competition.

Midfielder Jorge Ortiz Mendoza was on target in each half of the match and Ivan Gonzalez added the third as the Gaurs completed the rout over the Red Miners.

The FC Goa fans were pleased with their side’s performance against Jamshedpur FC and expressed their opinions freely when we spoke to them.

Savio Anthony Vaz, a member of the FC Goa Fan Club was appreciative of the impact of Alberto Noguera and Jorge Ortiz Mendoza in the attack. “Finally it felt like the FC Goa team we were used to watching. Noguera’s presence in the middle made a huge difference with Ortiz playing the striker role suits the FC Goa style of play better. Igor is no doubt a better finisher but his style doesn’t suit the FC Goa way. If Ortiz can just brush up his finishing we can really make it to the title this year.”

Saiel Naik of the East Lower Army heralded the attacking performance displayed by the Goan side. He also appreciated goalkeeper Naveen Kumar for getting a clean sheet in his first match of the season.

“First of all, what a game it was, total dominance in attack and some sheer class goalkeeping by super Naveen. I was a bit surprised by not seeing Igor Angulo and Mohammed Nawaz, but had confidence on the coach’s tactics and that proved right too. For me, the whole team was the standout performers tonight, every player gave their 100%.”

Juvot D’Costa from the FC Goa Fan Club emphasized on the importance of the win for the Gaurs’ quest for another ISL playoff position.

“I think the win against Jamshedpur FC was more important for the team because it is that time of the league where all the teams keep fighting for the playoffs spot. I think Alberto Noguera played the best role in today’s match. I would definitely say that he was crucial for all the three goals scored by the Gaurs. He has been a good replacement for Ahmed Jahouh. We should also recognize the brilliance of Naveen Kumar getting the clean sheet and Jorge Ortiz with those fabulous strikes getting the brace.

Kunal Kolienkar from the East Lower Army was all praise for his side’s win over the Red Miners in a confident fashion.

“3-0 against a team like JFC takes a lot of courage. We were already 2-0 up in the first half and killed the game later in the other half. There were a couple of star performers, Naveen was excellent, having sat out for more than a season and putting on a performance like that is commendable. Ivan was a beast in defense and scored a lovely goal which has to be a contender for the goal of the season. Ortiz like always was a Warhorse out there and scored a brace to seal the game for us.”

“As I said earlier sitting out for more than a season and then putting out that kind of a performance in his very first game is worth applauding. He deserved the clean sheet, made a couple of good saves which proved to be game-changing. Happy for him and I hope he continues to be in front of the goal.” concluded Kunal
