Amarjit Singh: I want to win things with FC Goa

Goa, February 3, 2021: FC Goa’s key to success all these years can largely be attributed to their play in midfield. A philosophy in which ball possession is key, a vital cog in the larger blueprint that has helped the Gaurs garner success with much regularity is their domination in the middle of the pitch.

Amarjit Singh Kiyam’s arrival at FC Goa should render more acclaim to a midfield that has already established itself as one of the best in the Hero Indian Super League. Already an Indian international at the age of 20, the youngster his arrival not only should be able to make an immediate impact but also bodes well for the future of the Club.

Speaking to fcgoa.in in his first interview after completing the move, the youngster further elaborated as to what prompted him to become a Gaur.

“I was absolutely elated when I got to know that FC Goa was interested in me. They have been a club I have long admired due to the philosophy and style of play. Playing against them was really hard work. I am glad, I will be in FC Goa colours now,” remarked Amarjit.

“The style of play always stood out. The way they keep possession and break at the right moment, you can say they have really redefined how you can play football in India. Playing with the ball rather than without makes life on the football field so much better.

“This is already a good team. There is a reason that FC Goa finishes in the top four every season. I want to come in and make this team even better. I want to win things with the club.”

Even after losing key figures all around this previous off-season, FC Goa refurbished and was again able to reestablish their dominance in that part of the field – albeit with a whole new bunch of names. And this week has seen the defending ISL league champions lay further emphasis on the same.

Want to live up the expectations of the Goan fans

A leader on the pitch, the 20-year-old famously led the India U17 team in the 2017 FIFA U17 World Cup before leading the charge for the Indian Arrows in the I-League for two seasons. And now he wants to be a standout in FC Goa colours.

His performances have caught the attention of all and sundry. The youngster has been able to marry his grit and graft along with panache on the ball – propelling him to be considered amongst one of the best in the business in the country when it comes to names in centre midfield.

“Goa is a state which breathes football. Quite like the place I come from. It will be an honour for me to represent the people of Goa and wear their colours. They have great expectations from the team and I want to help live up to it,” further added Amarjit.

“FC Goa goes into every game with the intent of winning and that is vital. That’s a culture that has been well cultivated and something I want to inculcate even more. Right now, I am eager to get on to the pitch, give my all and impress. This is a big challenge for me as well as there are many good players in my position and this will force me to improve upon myself further.”
