Mumbai City FC have announced that they have mutually agreed to part ways with Former Portugal International Paulo Machado

Mumbai City have confirmed the departure of Paulo Machado after both club and player agreed on a mutual termination.

The 34-year old joined the club in August 2018 and  was an influential figure in the Islanders’ midfield, helping guide the Club to its second ever playoff qualification. He captained the Islanders alongside Amrinder Singh during his two years at the Club.

After being ever present in the first season, Machado’s second year at the Club was cut short after a season-ending injury in December 2019. The Portuguese international made 5 assists and scored 3 goals in the Islanders’ colors over 29 appearances in two seasons.

Bimal Parekh, co-owner of Mumbai City FC said, “Paulo has been a true model professional in these past two years. His influence on the Club has been immense, both on and off the pitch and we are thankful for his contributions to the Club. All of us at Mumbai City wish Paulo the best for the future.”

The City Football group owned club has recently acquired the services of high-profile player in Hugo Boumous, after agreeing on the 1.6 Cr. buy-out clause from FC Goa. The Islanders have already rope in former Gaurs in Mortuda Fall, Mandar Rao Desai and Ahmed Jahouh. With former FC Goa coach Sergio Lobera at the helm, Islanders are prepared for title challenge from the get go.
