Hero 2nd Division League: Mumbai City (R) edge past Kerala Blasters FC (R)

In an enticing encounter between two ISL Developmental sides, Shreyas Vatekar scored to give Mumbai City (R) their first win in the league.

At an end to end affair against a robust Kerala Blasters Reserves team, Mumbai City kept their calm and edged past the Southerners by a solitary goal. The match kicked off seeing Kerala Blasters create the early chances. In fact, the Manjappada boys came very close to scoring in the initial exchanges. Failing to do so, at the 24th minute, Mumbai capitalized from a corner. A towering header from Shreyas kept Mumbai ahead at the end of the first half.

As the second half kicked off, Kerala Blasters kept on creating opportunities but eventually failed to find the net. However, the Islanders solidified their defence and ably tackled the opponent attacking forces. Mumbai City’s Mohammed Asif, who earlier got a call-up from the main team, was stretchered off due to a hamstring pull at the later stages of the match. The Islanders captain Kevin D’Souza and Advait Rai picked up bookings in the second half for rough challenges on the visitors.

After playing four matches, Mumbai City has 4 points. The Islanders have lost two matches and won and drawn once. They are currently placed in the 5th position in the Group-C table. Mumbai City (R) is slated to play against FC Goa (R) in their next outing on 26th February at the SESA Ground, Goa.
