FC Goa vs Kerala Blasters FC – Three key battles to watch out for

In search of a win, Gaurs next opponent are the team from God’s own country – Kerala Blasters FC. We take a look at three key battles that can have an impact on the result of the match.

FC Goa take on Kerala Blasters FC at the fortress Fatorda Stadium as the double header action carries on in the Indian Super League on Sunday.

With three matches played, the Gaurs have not been able to add a win on the standings. Two draws and a loss means that FC Goa are currently placed on the eight spot in the ISL standings.

Igor Angulo vs Albino Gomes

Igor Angulo has managed to stamp his authority on the league from the get-go with two goals against familiar foes Bengaluru FC. That goals helped Gaur mount a comeback after being down 0-2 in the match. Against NorthEast United FC, in a similar situation, Igor added another goal to his ISL tally to level things on the scoreboard.

Meanwhile Albino Gomes has been in fine form between the sticks for the Blasters. He got them out of a spot of bother when he saved a penalty against Chennaiyin FC to get his first clean sheet of ISL 2020-21. His form against the prolific FC Goa striker Igor Angulo will be key for the Blasters.

Edu Bedia vs Vicente Gomez

FC Goa skipper Edu Bedia is always one of the most influential figures on the pitch with his industrious nature on and off the ball. He is never shy to go for a 50-50 tackle or the long-range shot which makes him an unpredictable character on the pitch.

In a similar role for the Blasters, Vicente Gomez has established himself as one of the key midfielders for the Kerala side. With the absence of Sergio Cidoncha due to injury, more onus will fall on Gomez to deliver in the midfield.

The battle of the two Spaniard midfielders will be an interesting one when the Gaurs face off against Blasters.

Ivan Gonzalez vs Gary Hooper

Gary Hooper is the lone striker for the Kerala Blaster FC, who has managed to open his goal tally in the season. With just 1 goal in 3 games, Hooper, an experienced campaigner will be raring to get some goals in the attacking department. However he will have to take on the sturdy Spaniard Ivan Gonzalez in the FC Goa backline. The no-nonsense defender has helmed the Goan defence consistently so far in the competition and Hooper will have a tough task on his hand.

The classic striker vs defender battle will be crucial in the final result of the exciting encounter.
