FC Goa vs Chennaiyin FC – 3 Key Player Battles

An exciting clash on the cards in the Indian Super League this weekend as FC Goa are all set to take on familiar foes Chennaiyin FC at the Fatorda Stadium.

FC Goa come into this encounter on the back of a close loss against ATK Mohun Bagan. The Gaurs conceded a penalty late into the match that was converted by ATKMB striker Roy Krishna for the three points. Chennaiyin FC are in the hunt of their second win in the ISL season after failing to do so in their previous four matches. They have lost two and drawn two coming into this encounter against FC Goa.

We take a look at three key battles on the pitch that will shape the encounter at the Fatorda Stadium.

1. Vishal Kaith vs Igor Angulo

Igor Angulo has been the most lethal striker in the ISL so far with six goals in as many matches in his debut campaign. He has scored six out of seven goals scored by the Gaurs this season. The Spaniard has been dangerous with his physical presence and ability to be in the right positions in the attack. Vishal Kaith, the Chennaiyin FC keeper will have a big task at his hands to keep Angulo’s shots away from his goal.

2. Alberto Noguera vs Anirudh Thapa

Alberto Noguera has been a steady presence in the midfield for the FC Goa side. He has the ability to find the right passes almost always and controls the attacking flow of the Gaurs from the middle of the park. Chennaiyin FC will welcome their star man Anirudh Thapa back into the team after his absence from the starting eleven due to injury. Thapa’s absence has been a huge loss for the Marina Machans and head coach Csaba Laszlo will hope his side is able to regain lost momentum in their campaign.

3. Seriton Fernandes vs Lallianzuala Chhangte

Lallianzuala Chhangte is one of the best Indian wingers currently playing in the ISL. He is a goal threat on the left flanks as well as a constant chance creator for the Chennaiyin FC attack. With his pace and tenacity, he will be a tough nut to crack for Goa’s right-back Seriton Fernandes. The young Goan has been a revelation over the past couple of seasons with his all-around play on the wings. He goes on marauding runs along the flank and does well in the defence as well. The battle between the two pacey youngsters will be certainly one to watch out for in this clash.
