Fans Voice – Gaur fans laud local lads Brandon, Gama

Gaur fans hail local lads Brandon Fernandes and Savior Gama, who provided the crucial assists against Blasters, while calling Igor the perfect Coro replacement.

FC Goa ended their winless streak in the ISL 2020-21 campaign, when they clinched a 3-1 win over Kerala Blasters FC at the Fatorda Stadium.

Twin strikes from Igor Angulo in either half of the match and a second half effort from Jorge Ortiz led the Gaurs to a convincing 3-1 win over the Kerala side. For the Blasters, Vicente Gomez scored in the 90th minute of the match.

With that win, FC Goa are now placed fourth on the ISL standings with five points from four matches of the competition. We spoke to some of the most ardent FC Goa supporters to get their opinion on the team’s first win in the ISL 2020-21 season.

The fans were high in their praise for the prolific striker Igor Angulo who has notched up five goals in four matches in the competition so far. He has emerged as one of the front runners for the ISL Golden Boot Award.

Salil Naik from the East Lower Army opines that the win was much needed for the Gaurs to get their season on after a rough start. This victory will provide the boost for head coach Juan Ferrando to set up his side for the ISL season as well as the AFC Champions League coming up ahead.

Fellow East Lower Army member Rajdeep Desai felt that the win was around the corner as the Gaurs were playing very well in their initial three matches. They were unlucky to not get a win but the persistence has paid off and the team looks determined and committed to perform well in the season.

One of the key takeaways from the win over the Kerala Blasters FC were the two assists provided by local Goa lads Brandon Fernandes and Saviour Gama.

Kunal Kunkolienkar, another East Lower Army member heralds the contribution of the two Goan lads who provided the assists. He also credits other Goan players such as Lenny Rodrigues and Seriton Fernandes who have been key players for the side.

Meanwhile, some  fans also feel that the Spaniard Igor Angulo could be the perfect replacement for their all-time top scorer Ferran ‘Coro’ Corominas in the attack. “Yes, Indeed. FC Goa striking power is again in safe legs. I must say that his activeness and accurate finishing touches has meant we have found another Coro, this time named as Igor Angulo” says Rajdeep. Others have caution in their words, “Igor definitely looks to be a strong contender for the golden Boot with 5 goals in 4 games. It’s too early to say that he’s filled in the boots of Coro but he’s definitely on the verge of it” states Kunal.

The fans are highly optimistic after the positive performance from the Gaurs against Kerala Blasters FC and hope that the side is able to carry on the momentum ahead. FC Goa are set to take on Odisha FC at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim, Goa on 12th December, 2020 in their fifth match of the ISL 2020-21 campaign.
