In a thrilling encounter at Cooperage in the MDFA Elite Division (Corporate) Western Railway beat Central Railway 2-1. In a closely contested first half which contained 3 goals, both teams displayed their exquisite attacking styles.

Western Railway player Merwin Stephen had a brilliant first half as he entertained spectators with his silky touch and dribbling skills, the attacker came very close to scoring early in the game after getting past a few players only to be denied by the Central Railway goalkeeper. The goal eventually came for the Western Railway side as Merwin Stephen put the ball in the back of the net after some sublime dribbling in the penalty box which helped him go past a couple of defenders before calmly placing the ball into the goal.

The second goal for the team in red came via P.T. Somi as a delicious cross was headed in by the forward. For the Central Railway side, the goal came with the help of a well-worked long-throw routine which was perfectly flicked and tapped in by Shafeeq Q.

Much like the first half, the second half also showed a lot of promise, however, lack of finishing in the final third meant that the game would end 2-1 in favor of Western Railway. An entertaining derby, therefore, came to an end with Western Railway emerging victorious as Merwin’s constant threat in attack proved to be too much for the Central Railway side.

Result- Elite Div: Western Railway 2 (Merwin Stephen 14′, P.T. Somi 33’) beat Central Railway 1 (Shafeeq Q. 36’)
