Sanjeev Verma’s heroics rescues BOI a point against Central Railway
Goalkeeper Sanjjev Verma pulled off numerous saves for Bank of India as a late surge of attacks from Central railway meant the game ended at 1-1 draw
With MDFA Elite League table title already out of reach both CR and BOI faced of each other for an early morning kick off at Cooperage.
After a goalless first half, the game came into life when defensive lapses from CR’s defender Robin allowed BOI’s Alvito Gomez to snatch on a loose ball before finding the back of net to put bankers upfront.
With a goal down, Central Railway came in to life in search of an equaliser. Despite a series of attack, BOI held resolute courtesy of a stellar performance from Goalkeeper Sanjeev Verma. However with 10 minutes left of play, CR finally found the equaliser when substitute Krishna Naidu’s through ball found Shafique in the right wing who dribbled it past couple of defender before sending in a pin-point cross for his teammate Shahbaz Pathan who made no mistake in slotting it home.
With the scores level and momentum on their side, Central Railway put more men forward in search of equaliser. Central railway almost had the winner for themselves however BOI’s Keeper Sanjeev Verma pulled off two brilliant saves in an one-on one situation to hold off the CR winner including one 90th minute attempt from Shahbaz Pathan.
The game finally ended at 1-1 score line the draw had no impact for Central Railway placed at 7th with 10 points in the standings while BOI jumped three places to 8th tied with Dena Bank and UBI.
