Mumbai to get more Football events with Zars Sports

Registrations are open for Shanthi Kunnj presents Zars Football Funday – a 5 a side football event for both Men and Women to be played out on the 13th of January at Astro Park, Cooperage, Colaba.

Founded by two sports enthusiasts – one of whom is three-time Player for Maharashtra Women’s team, Zars Sports aims at bridging the gender gap through sports as a medium.

While this will be the first tournament from Zars Sports, there are plans for plenty more similar tournaments in near future. Apart from organizing corporate & open tournaments or other sporting events, Zars Sports would also begin football training’s for Kids and adults alike with special focus on empowering women through the sport.

Since the last decade number of sportswomen have risen to the top and made a mark in Indian sports. From Hima Das in track and field, Mary Kom in boxing, Phogat sisters in Wrestling to Harmanpreet, Smriti Mandhana in women’s cricket, Bala Devi in Women’s football have inspired plenty of girls to take up sports. Women are far more visible in sports today, than at any previous point in history.

Speaking to Footballcounter.com, Co-founder of Zars sports Kimberly Fernandez opined, “Through sport, we can leverage our partnerships & engagements with different audiences to teach everyone that gender-based biases have no place on or off the playing field. This is what we at Zars are working towards.”

Zars is set up by two sports enthusiasts – Kimberly Fernandez and Nigel D’souza as a means to give back to sport and to the community. Kimberly Fernandez is a 3 time Player for Maharashtra Women’s team currently playing for Bodyline Sports Club. She is also a certified football Coach and as managed the Under-18 Maharashtra team. The other founding member of Zars is Nigel D’souza, Director at Drillpro India and an Alumni of XLRI Jamshedpur.

Zars Sports in their inaugural football tournament have managed to rope in Shanthi Kunnj – a paradise by the riverside – Chikmagalur, Karnataka, as a title sponsors while Kipsta by Decathlon, Atria Mall are the Sporting Partner of the event. The tournament has also attracted sponsor like Monster Energy as Energy drinks partner, Jean-Claude Biguine as Salon & Spa Partner and Monki by Maitreyi Bhatia & Skyvik Tech as Gift Partners. While sporting events are essentials, sponsors too play a crucial role in the success of such events which in turn help boost the sports.
