MDFA suspends Mumbai City FC U18 on assault charges, ban for involved players, staffs

MDFA suspends the ISL outfit Mumbai City FC’s Under-18 team for the rest of the 2019-20 season along with a fine of Rs 10 lakhs for alleged assault

MDFA has suspended the ISL outfit Mumbai City FC’s Under-18 team for the rest of the 2019-20 season along with a fine of Rs 10 lakhs for alleged assault on a match official by its team players and support staff recently.

The players and support staff of Mumbai City FC U18 team were involved in a physical altercation with assistant match referee Umesh Patel after an Elite Division encounter against Karnatak Sporting Association played on Wednesday, December 11th.

On 11th, after losing the match against Karnatak SA, Mumbai City officials confronted the referees with regards to some of the decisions going against their way. The arguments soon escalated and it was reported that Mumbai City officials abused, spat on the referee, humiliated and physically assaulted the match official assistant referee Umesh Patel.

This unsavoury incident has led to 10 players getting banned for a year along with 5000 Rs. Fine for each. The 10 players who were banned are Mohammed Kaif Khan, Twain Fernandes, Aayush Kumar, Keith D’Souza, Wilsh D’Souza, Vishal Mali, Aman Dubey, Pratham Ghatnur, Karsten D’Souza and Ashley Koli.

Coach Mohan Das and assistant coach Suprith Jathana too have been issued a year ban along with 25000 Rs. Penalty, while Goalkeeping coach Abdul Qadeer and Physio Jay Singh have been issued a ban for a period of 5 years along with 25000 Rs fine

The MDFA disciplinary committee took these decisions during its meeting held at the Cooperage ground, after considering the reports by match officials, MDFA members and MCFC team manager Aabhan Thumbi, who were present at the venue and had witnessed the incident.

Meanwhile, MDFA has decided to suspend Mumbai City FC Under-18 team for rest of the season and fined the club of Rs 10 lakh. The association has also strictly warned the club against future such indiscretions which has brought disrepute to the game.
