Kenkre FC prevails 2-1 against Mumbai Strikers

Kenkre Mumbai Strikers

28th February 2019, Mumbai: On Thursday afternoon, Kenkre FC locked horns against Mumbai Strikers in the MDFA Elite Division (Private Group) at Cooperage Stadium. After a shaky first-half, Kenkre FC scored twice in the second-half to register a hard-fought 2-1 win against Mumbai Strikers.

This was Mumbai Strikers’ first defeat of the season as they were undefeated so far along with Karnataka Sports Association (KSA) and U-Mumba. With this win, Kenkre FC has moved to fourth in the table, having garnered 14 points in six games.

The game started slowly. Both the sides took their time to settle into the game. Kenkre FC’s midfielder Lester Fernandes dictated the whole game. His presence in the midfield proved insanely good for Kenkre. On the other end, Mumbai Strikers’ Ravish D’Souza had several chances upfront but couldn’t manage to get his attempts on the target.

The second-half was much more lively as compared to the first. Right-winger Jayesh Kadam opened the scoring with a thumping header. Moments later, Rohan Shukla doubled the lead with a powerful finish, which left Mumbai Strikers’ goalkeeper Sumit Salian with no chance.

Mumbai Strikers’ new signing Nazeef from Mumbai Customs made a brilliant impact. Receiving the ball in the midfield, Nazeef danced past three defenders before beating the goalkeeper with a sublime finish. The Strikers was right back in the game but Kenkre kept their composure pretty well to avoid leaking any goal.

In the end, it was Kenkre who ran out as winners. Mumbai Strikers must look to improve their midfield and decision making in the final third which ultimately cost them a crucial game.
