HDFC defeats Western Railway in their own fortress

22nd January 2019, Mumbai: In an exciting contest, Super Division Champions HDFC got the better of Western Railway after registering a commendable 4-2 win in the MDFA Elite Division (Corporate Group) at Western Railway Football Ground on Tuesday evening.

The Railways was having a tremendous time at their home ground before ONGC and HDFC ended their in-form run. One can definitely say that it was a determined and courageous effort by Julian D’Silva’s side who were a much better side in terms of tactics and discipline.

HDFC made a great start after Sherwin Gonsalves opened the scoring in the 9th minute. Western Railway responded well and took their opportunity to level the score in the 26th minute through prolific striker Mervin Stephens. At the break, the score was locked at 1-1.

HDFC started the second half just like they did in the first. A beautiful goal by Ramesh Singh restored the one-goal lead before Western Railway equalized again. This time through Charanjit Singh.

But Julian D’Silva’s side had other ideas. Just four minutes later, Utsav Maralkar made it 3-2 in favor of the Bankers before Sherwin scored his second and HDFC’s fourth to seal a memorable win.
