Faraz Shaikh rescues M.S Police with an injury-time goal

25th February 2019, Mumbai: On Monday afternoon, a struggling M.S Police side faced Central Bank of India (CBI) in MDFA Elite Division (Corporate Group) at Cooperage Stadium. After losing their previous game, M.S Police displayed a gritty performance to hold Central Bank of India (CBI) 1-1, courtesy Faraz Shaikh injury-time free-kick.
With only one win so far, M.S Police is not really having a great season as compared to the previous campaign. The side has lacked instinct upfront and has not been up to the mark at all this season. On the other end, CBI had a huge chance to register their fourth win of the season but the Bankers had to settle for an unlikely draw despite dominating M.S.P throughout the game.
The Bankers made a great start when Yogesh Kadam found the back of the net with a wonderful finish in the 15th minute. CBI kept dictating the match but due to poor finishing, they couldn’t increase their lead. This kept M.S Police in the game.
The second-half was more or less like the first. CBI had the majority of the ball possession, kept creating chances, but once again, failed to convert it. Just when CBI thought that they have picked up all three points, M.S.P was awarded a free-kick in the injury-time.
Faraz Shaikh took a deep breath, positioned the ball, and brilliantly strike the free-kick straight into the goal to level the score against the run of play. CBI’s resilience was finally broken. In what seemed like an easy three points, CBI had to share spoils against a determined M.S.P side.
In the other Corporate Group game on Tuesday morning, Union Bank of India (UBI) defeated Bank of India (BOI) 3-1 in the Bankers Derby to win the bragging rights at the Cooperage Stadium.
