WCG Rink Football: St. Anthony edge over St. Joseph 3-2
St. Anthony ‘B’, Malwani put up a determined fighting display and managed to eke out a narrow 3-2 win against St. Joseph’s ‘C’, Mira Road in an exciting Men’s first round match of the Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana organized 31st Inter-Parish 5-a-side Rink Football Tournament – 2018 for the Victor D’Mello Trophy and played under floodlights at the gymkhana’s tennis courts.
In a keenly contested encounter, St. Anthony’s scored through Jackson Koli, Suraj Bhagat and Kevin Fernandes to snatch the win and advance to the second round, while St. Joseph’s who put up a good fight got their two goals through Imran Abdusalam and Riddic Carlo.
In another match, St. Joseph’s ‘D’, Juhu got the better of Our Lady of Assumption, Kandivali by a narrow 3-1 margin. Strikers Jayesh Surve, Glenn Pereira and Vicky D’Souza were on target with a goal each for the Juhu side, while Grenville Murzello netted the lone goal for the Kandivali outfit.
Results – 1st round: St. Vincent Pallotti ‘A’, Marol 5 (Ashton Dias 2, Oliver Bennis 1, Melwin Vaz 1, Shelton D’Silva 1) beat Our Lady of Victories ‘D’, Mahim 1 (Floyd D’Souza 1).
St. Joseph’s ‘D’, Juhu 3 (Jayesh Surve 1, Glenn Pereira 1, Vicky D’Souza 1) beat Our Lady of Assumption, Kandivali 1 (Grenville Murzello 1).
St. Anthony’s ‘B’, Malwani 3 (Jackson Koli, Suraj Bhagat 1, Kevin Fernandes 1) beat St. Joseph’s ‘C’, Mira Road 2 (Imran Abdusalam 1, Riddic Carlo 1).
